I think very few should be shooting at 644 yards on animals they care about retrieving in field conditions. Always best to get closer if you can, and frankly most of the fun in hunting is getting in close anyway. The last deer I shot a few months back was around 614m(?) on a cull hunt. This is...
Maybe. But are you really going to take a 644 yard shot cross canyon in wind with a .223 and have any better luck of a hit?
One of my hunting partners shoots heaps of 223 on fallow deer. He reckons it's a 200-300m max round on deer for consistent quick kills outside of head/neck shots. I think...
Here in New Zealand we can hunt deer all year round. I know plenty of people that use .223 for deer and it's one of my favorite calibres as well. But if I'm a serious hunt, especially for things like Tahr or Wapiti, I'm bringing a larger calibre. I use the .223 for culls along with most other...
The Blaser is a straight pull bolt action. It is not a semi-auto. The H2 in that calibre and that load blew the primers. I don't even blame the suppressor, it's just that suppressors can cause this issue.
Why? I don't know but it looks and acts like overpressure. Complete with blown primer...
Just a warning for those with removable wraps on suppressors: My ASE suppressor came with a removable heat wrap. It worked, but also shifted POI if it was not put on precisely the same each time. Even then it can rotate in the bush and throw off a shot. I don't use wraps any more after seeing that.
None of these charts take into account fitting a suppressor that is impinging gasses leaving the barrel. They assume bare muzzle.
All I know is this:
- When I put on one suppressor on a rifle it blew out primers and made clear ejection marks on brass.
- When no suppressor is on the rifle it...
This just happened to my Blaser R8 in 270 running an A-Tec H2 suppressor and factory Superperformance ammo. The rifle never has blown a primer before, but did when this suppressor was used. I removed all but one baffle and still did it. I swapped it for an ASE Utra SL7 and the problem stopped...
Yes suppressors can cause higher pressures. I had one that caused cartridges to blow primers. Switched it for another and pressure signs all stopped. You can use a lighter load if you need to use the suppressor you have.
I do not shoot cartridges that show pressure signs. If it is doing it in...
I ran one brand of suppressor on a rifle and it caused cartridges to completely blow the primer. This never happened before when not using a suppressor on this rifle. I switched to another and it completely went away.
So to answer the question, it can definitely be related to the suppressor...
SHV 3-10. Tape an elevation card on your buttstock and remove the turret if you need to dial. Otherwise, capped dials for bush hunting like the SHV for 100 yards and in is a good thing.
Can sell to dog food makers if not eaten. Some places we'll cull and take good cuts but leave rest. Other places drop poison as last resort if deer populations get too high. Then the area will be wiped out and you don't want to hunt it for a couple months to be safe.
I have seen guys pull up...
R93s are lighter, but sadly all support for them is ended. If you want to swap calibres it will be used market.
My R8 runs NFS NXS/SHV scopes and are about 9lbs. Probably 9.5 all loaded with sling.
This is about 1lb. heavier than I typically like, but for the shorter length, de-cocker...
Mate of mine uses the .223 Blaser barrel with 55gr bullets and more often bullets in the 60s and lays waste to heaps of deer. I don't know if he uses 77gr but will ask. I use 55 soft points on deer and they don't go far when hit properly.
I hear this complaint online mainly. In reality, my Blaser barrels shoot everything out to any range without issue with proven match bullets. If someone is dead set on shooting heavies with the latest 1 in 1.2786 optimized twist for whatever bullet the vendors are hocking them this week, it's...
I have definitely sold off rifles as I mainly shoot the Blaser. I own the pro success synthetic stock and it's not babied!
Of the synthetic rifles I've owned, the Blaser stock feels the most durable and stable. It is dead in the hand and you can tell it can take a beating.
A recent deer cull I...
Yeah Blaser will sell you a set of underpants if you let them. The scopes look OK, but are very expensive. I just shoot the R8 with a Nightforce sitting on top and enjoy hitting things.
The biggest problem with Blaser is if you show up with one people assume you are a rich guy that can't shoot.
The rifles have significant differences. The primary is that the Tikka is roughly based on the Sako TRG which was based on the original Tikka design. The bolt lugs are not flat, but angled and this reduces the chance of ice being wedged into the lug recess in my opinion vs. the 700. The smooth...
Second. Truly awesome. Guide friends of mine I recommended them too rave about them as well. As good as my full size binos in virtually all uses. If they had a range finder on them I wouldn't take full size binos at all hunting.
Not an option any hunt. Hunts are expensive for most people in terms of time off work, travel, preparation, etc. A great warranty doesn't mean anything when you just flushed dollars and time down the toilet due to a scope failure on a hunt.
