    280ai is SAMMI now, so ammo if you don't reload is available for both. I'd take it over the 270 in any barrel length for it's bullet selection- especially if you want to shoot if further out (higher BC) using a "dailer". And yah... RL-26 is cool!

    I kinda agree... I got a Vanguard "Weatherguard" 7mmRM ($700) last year (replacing my 30 year old 700) and really like it all around. At about 7 1/2 lbs ("lightly" scoped with a Weaver Grand Slam 2-8 x 36, about 8 1/2) it's just right for a mountain rifle. Even the bold face is cerikoted!
