.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Actually if you read this thing from the beginning, you’re going see many elk killed in the 350-450 range with the same wound profile. There is also one elk killed at 803 yards if memory is working…

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Maybe someone above can start a new dedicated thread on cast bullets use and performance. It’s nice to keep this thread focused as a 223/77 “reference” for those interested.

Soooo I’m thinking about .243- few questions

My tikka t3x 223 super light weighed 6.3 lbs bare. It’s now dressed with my first suppressor which added about 5.5 oz. Did not cut it, the jk 155 is short. Scope is heavy, but it will work if I drop it!

Soooo I’m thinking about .243- few questions

Mtwarden, flip phones were fine, but the smart phones proved more functional! You have a lot of experience and possibly haven’t been into this “new” stuff. Ie accubonds vs match Bullets as you mentioned. There is a lot of info here if you haven’t read it. Interesting to me the 243 and 95 nbt...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

As usual I’m late, to Forms more concise response to TP (taperpin)

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

I know you’re responding to another point, but the support you used is the essence of the 223 thread and basis for why educating hunters is important, imm. I’d add to your point for fudds ( hunters who still believe big displacement, 70+ grains and controlled expansion bullets). The wounds for...

    Drop Test Pass/Fail

This is a great idea! Ryan I think posting the complied list might be best placed in the optics forum as a sticky. So many folks there are oblivious to the tests or it seems. Might get sone increased cross traffic

What is the current best scope on the market?

I wonder if Ryan could link the drop tests from long range into the optics sub thread too…

    JK armament Jk155 versa max

Thought I would post a quick thread on this silencer. Not a lot of attention on these but found it versatile and affordable. They run about $500. This is their 9mm model. There is a 30 cal and 45 cal too. Because I’m on such a tight budget these days I wanted one can that can handle all my...

So, you went smaller caliber, but not down to .223…

My first was 32 spl, then a 7 mag I reduced to a 308 which was better, but added a 6 mm rem but it was a 1 in 14 twist. So added a 350 rem mag and a 358 win. All over the board… And for Michigan deer in restricted area a MZL and a 12 ga. Since Rokslide, magnums as well most are gone...

What caused the Rokslide shift to smallest caliber and cartridges?

Wow, step away for a few days and this lively thread captivated me! I’m so late to chime in to the ops question but wanted too as I’m proud of my adoption and transformation based on Forms public and private help. I was a fudd trying to learn my self to shoot long from mbr with magnums...

Am I the only one who doesn’t use any gloves when I am gutting an animal out lol.

Never did until recently, with lime disease, ehd etc seems more do - wether they are preventive is unknown to me. But it is definitely less clean up. If I don’t have a pair stashed I don’t worry

Ha they know it’s dinner. Occasionally they get a bit close and gun and side arm in truck. It’s farm land generally safe. Preferably I like to come back at first light and shoot them since center fire not legal in dark for fur and vermin.

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

Took pics this year. Meat doe, 157 yards from tree stand. Despite a railing I find them challenging to get small wobble but put good one on here. She went 18 yards and did the backwards somersault and done in seconds. Half heart left and bottom lungs were liquid. I’ll look for bullet...
