Android here and I've found it will throw off my reading on both OnX on my phone and on an actual compass. But that's if I just hold it up at bent arms length, which puts it about a foot away from the harness. If I extend my arm the reading changes and actually becomes accurate. Little bit of a...
Granted, I don't know anything about the OP either and whether he's in the right or the wrong, but this was also the first thing I thought of. I love this little anecdote and have shared it A BUNCH myself. Truer words...
I can try that.
I know salt water obviously will get to a lower temp before freezing, but what would be the expected difference in temp from a frozen jug of tap water versus a frozen jug of salt water? Doing a google search shows that salt water ice can be actually below 0F. Is this correct...
I used to work part time for a painting contractor friend in the summers. Sherwin Williams' Duration or Emerald are the best. If I remember correctly, I think Emerald is just Duration with some type of cutting additive that you can do yourself. I can't remember the specifics though, and I doubt...
I made exactly the same set up myself. With a good burner and a big pot it only takes a few mins to get a gallon or two of water to shower hot temp (100-120). Just keep a thermometer handy so as not to overheat the water. Side advantage is having pressured water for rinsing dishes or other stuff.
Not much of a photo here, but only posting it in case anyone has followed along with the previous dove nest pictures I've been posting. Went out this morning and then hen was on the nest, but she immediately jumped off. Looks like my guess was right, the two squabs left this nest since I...
Not the same thing, but I killed a nice bull in the Gila in 2015, beautiful dark beams/tines with white tips. His rack smelled strongly of the charred trees he had rubbed them on and the smell lasted for almost 4 years!! Just getting near enough to smell the antlers always brought back the...
Quality work aside, are you positive it went to a tannery? I seem to remember hearing about tanneries being pretty backed up over the last few years (possibly due to covid excuses?). Seems like a pretty quick turn-around time if it includes having been out to a tannery. IDK...Just seems like...
Looking back I noticed one of my first pics taken of these two was 12 days ago. This means they're likely due to fly from the nest within the next few days. Also noticed the hen hasn't been brooding at night, which is another sign. Judging from the looks of their primaries and tailfeathers, it's...
More than one photo but I thought these were cool.
Later this evening right at dark, she was actively feeding them. Although I was close, I couldn't get a good quality pic with the poor light. Will try for that one next.
Finally found a moment when she left the nest, albeit briefly, to hit the birdbath for water about 15 feet away. I had noticed an eggshell to her side so figured she must be sitting on chicks. Took a quick shot while she was at the birdbath. She went into her "wounded bird" routine to distract...
