We have a really sweet set in the works but won't be out until fall. In the mean time, this pole from Tarptent is a good option:

This is really inaccurate. Yes both poly and nylon stretch, but stretch is not the problem -it's sag. The two big problems with silnylon are sag and water absorption. Silpoly is drastically better at these things to give a huge real world benefit.
The core issue is that nylon has amide bonds in...
Nice. If you want to sleep 2 people under the fly you can angle the poles so the bottoms are along the center line of the shelter and then you can sleep two people without needing to lay head to toe. We have some people that do this.
I'm a bit late to this thread, but here's a few quick comments:
"If reputable manufacturers can save cost AND add performance, then they certainly will and silnylon will be obsolete."
Silpoly doesn't save cost, but it does add performance. Tons of companies are switching like Black Diamond...
We do have a solid inner version coming out for the X-Mid 1 and 2. Those will be ready in July for the first batch. That'll probably sell out fast so we recommend being on the notification, but starting late 2022 we will have much better supply of everything.
Regarding the space in the X-Mid 2...
It's possible but pretty rare. Only times that happens are if you're camping on pure bedrock, or on a wood tent pad. With wooden tent pads you can usually get creative (e.g. tie it to the wood slats), whereas on bedrock you would need to move big rocks around and tie off to those. In those...
Did the trekking poles break? Or were they dislodged somehow (e.g. escaped from the peak grommets or the handles slid out at the bottom)? If it's the latter, often more tension on the poles does the trick (e.g extend them more vigorously so there's more pressure on the pole to keep it gripped in...
Things are about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. Should ship in about 2 weeks (mid-August).
The 2P is slightly taller, so it's 48" vs 46.5" for the 1P, but the actual height varies on how you pitch it (setting the cord longer at the corners raises the fly for more ventilation, and vice versa) and...
Glad things are improving. A few comments:
- With regard to your #1, yes aiming for the cords to be straight out from the corners is ideal but it's not too picky on this.
- 125cm is too long. 120cm is about the max for a good pitch. If you are setting the cords longer at the corners the whole...
It's already been mentioned, but I'll elaborate a bit more on why you want to stake the base tight in addition to getting the rectangle reasonably accurate.
Imagine if you staked out a rectangle that is accurate (e.g. nice 90 degree corners) but way too small (e.g. 2' x 1'). If you then tried...
What people call stretch often includes two different things, which are (1) actual stretch, and (2) sag. The pros/cons of actual stretch are debatable, as some feel it helps to absorb high forces like tripping over a guyline while others think it's a con because the tent deflects more in the...
I think 0.75oz DCF fly + 70D silnylon bathrub is a bit mismatched because the floor likely has 2-3x the life of the canopy, but it could be a good match if you camp on rougher surfaces (rock etc).
0.75oz DCF does help substantially with #1 (puncture resistance) which is why besides hail etc...
"5X the waterproof rating and 5X tear strength of 30D ripstop. It will hold up to whatever you throw at it. But maybe you know something that I don't. Dyneema is the strongest fiber in the world."
DCF/dyneema does have an extremely high tear strength and is extremely waterproof (when new), but...
The Drop is still on. It's a pre-sale for tents arriving in the spring with a lower introductory price of $250 (vs $280 regular price). The pre-sale ends on August 22.

If folks miss that, Drop is likely to order extra...
The X-Mid actually uses materials and hardware that are quite a bit more expensive than the SS2. For example, the X-Mid uses water resistant ("Uretek") zippers from YKK, whereas the SS2 uses basic (non-waterproof) zippers. Only the much more expensive SS Li ($689) gets Uretek zippers like the...
When you have the poles removed the tent looks like this:
If you were worried about high winds when you're gone, what you could do is grab the peaks, pull them out to one side and then stake them down to the ground (via the peak guylines). That would nail everything to the ground, and rain...
You can also use the peak guylines to tie off the peaks to trees if possible. It's harder to get a nice pitch like this, but it works to keep the shelter somewhat pitched.
Or what AKTB said - just lay it down and have a bit of stuff positioned so that the rain is going to run off instead of...
I can't help you with the November Elk hunt, but the tents are on track to ready a bit early. They're likely to ship out mid-April.
Being separated from your hard earned money that long isn't ideal, but it's also part of why the price is so great. If another company was fronting all the money...
Hi alyuaz,
We have ordered quite a few more X-Mids than were pre-ordered, so there will be tents available around when they arrive in the spring. I'm not quite sure if Massdrop is going to start selling those when they arrive around March-April or if it will be a little sooner, but there will...
