    The 6UM

Potentially deer, including small elk sized deer. Our supply of bullets generally from the USA has been pretty sporadic the last few years, and sources of a lot of different projectiles can be very limited at the moment. Hornady is about the only brand that seems to be restocking over here with...

    The 6UM

Yes, that was pretty much my thinking. We have very limited availability of the DTACs in Australia, so right now thats kind of the "fatal flaw" of the 6UM. I will be watching with interest for more bullet performance reports.

    The 6UM

I understand twist rate. I am referring to terminal performance. So far I have only seen people using the nose ring DTAC bullets, but wondering if something like a Berger Hybrid or ELD-M would work. Mainly thinking about closer ranges or ate least closer to the muzzle since I already know an ELD...

    The 6UM

I dont know if I missed it in the thread, but is there a match bullet or lead cored bullet other than the nose ringed DTACs that will handle 6UM velocities?

    Fluted Barrels

In a properly stress relieved barrel, the loss of accuracy is negligible and most people would not be able to notice it. I run fluted barrels in several rifles and think its the best compromise in the weight vs accuracy trade-off we need to go with for rifles we are going to carry any distance.

The internet has broken the boundaries between upper/mid/lower class.

I believe the internet has driven the formation of what I think of as a form of tribalism, and it has both great & terrible implications. In the past, someone hunting / shooting obsessed could only judge the extent and level of normality (or lack thereof) of an obsession by comparing themselves...

    My knife builds

Made a mini version of my Bowie design that should be a good allrounder. Steel is 3mm NitroV with a full flat grind, with a distal taper to the point. Handle material is black Ritchlite with green G10 liners & pins.

Got away for a weekend deer hunt with my son

Hopefully its just a blip with the server as they seem to be working okay. Let me know if its an ongoing problem as I can post them to the thread if its affecting peoples ability to see them.

Got away for a weekend deer hunt with my son

Yeah, we are definitely pushing this particular bullet past what it was designed for, probably 400fps or so more at the muzzle. I have shot 20 or 30 animals with Barnes X bullets, but this was the first time we have hunted with this specific bullet.

Got away for a weekend deer hunt with my son

When my son was butchering the off side shoulder, he found one of the copper petals and a bit of the plastic tip near where the bullet had exited. We were running this bullet a little over the velocity it was designed for, but I was a surprised to see the petal brake off. Just judging by the...

Got away for a weekend deer hunt with my son

I spoke to a friend a few weeks back about a visit to his property. I mentioned a couple of possible weekends and he said the 30/9-1/10 worked best for him, so we booked it in. Then a week before we were due to leave, I realised it was the Australian Football League grand final weekend with a...

Anyone have problems doing strict carnivore?

I have been eating a low carb diet since early in 2003. I started with Atkins and back then everyone told me it would kill me for sure. I lost close to 60 pounds in the first 18 months of Atkins and I have stayed on some form of low carb approach to eating since then. My weight has been pretty...

    My knife builds

I was asked by one of the members on an Australian hunting forum to make a knife to a design he liked. The blade is magnacut steel with a tapered tang. Handle scales are Terotuf with G10 liners & pins. I like how it came up and it feels very good in the hand. Magnacut takes a bit of work to form...

    My knife builds

This one is a bushcrafter profile with a high saber grind. The edge is taken down very thin, so might be better suited to game prep duties than hard core bushcrafting. The blade is NitroV. Handles are "espresso micarta" with orange G10 liners & pins and brass tube. After sanding, the handle has...

    Left hand Tikka Stock Options

Yeah, I never asked them, but I guess they have to assume everyone is an idiot and so they say dont do any modifications. But you are only removing very minimal material out of the stock, so not affecting the structure. I didnt get the folder as they are not legal in all states of Australia...
