I have had a couple 223 AI's. The top 2 best things are they look cool and you don't have to trim brass as much/ever. The velo gains are not much, and won't hardly be noticeable in any hunting situation.
But if you just want something different and have no regard for money do it!
I think I...
I went through a game check station last fall. My gun/can were strapped to my pack on my front seat. I had both windows open, as it was warm out. Several game wardens were there. They asked lots of questions, about make and model, price, how well it worked. How hard was the process to get it...
Yes, I sent them a new action and barrel. They did the mods and chambered/threaded the barrel.
I just pulled the bolt apart, and there is lube on the cocking piece and firing pin- looks like TW25. There is no lube on the bolt body.
I picked up my barreled action Friday from UM. Has the mods and nitride. It is smoother than the original action I sent them, without me putting any lube on first. I would say it is every bit as smooth as a nitrided Bat Vampire I have.
Overall UM did a fabulous job. Just waiting on my LE Rokstok.
Insight from the guy that built it is better than any other. No one on here has handled it in person.
If he is a solid guy, he will fix it.
It didn't work out of the box. So it's like buying a trained hunting dog that won't hunt.
I have tested most every resizing process out there. On custom hunting rifles, custom target rifles, and off the shelf hunting rifles.
The most consistent results were from using bushings only, and size the brass till the striped bolt will just close.
On mostly custom built guns in 284...
Inventing a story out of nothing is never accurate. Be patient, i'm sure it will be posted when ready. Saying Leupold has control over these tests is way off base. To date they have zero current models that work at all, according to the tests. And the testors have gone above and beyond to show...
I just ordered one of these, for my S&W 329 with the drop loop:
https://www.diamonddcustomleather.com/products/alaska-hunter-hip-holster
It has 3 screws, so you can put it on a backpack belt. Can get it with or without cartridge loops. They aren't cheap, but a friend has one and they are very...
A lot of companies have been doing it for a long time. Most aren't as nicely done as Tikka. Usually a hand engraver with the last 4 digits. I believe In the manufacturing process, they want to keep the bolt with the rifle they have fitted it to (headspace).
Any of the Kawi/Canam/Polaris are every good. Polaris has the most aftermarket stuff.
A buddy has the Kawi, but has put more than the base price into mods & accessories. Things a "normal" person wouldn't need or do. Overall it is a reliable machine that is pushing 10k miles.
Beyond the base...
Waste their time?? They work for YOU!
I have called several here in Montana, usually when I am going into a new area. They have been mostly helpful. One met me in the area one day (he was planning on being there anyway). He was very knowledgeable about historic range conditions as they relate to...
I have had excellent results with H4831sc in several cartridges- 243AI (2 guns), 280 AI (2 guns), 30/06, & 416 Rigby. You can also look at Vihtavuori, there are quite a few available.
It comes down to what is acceptable accuracy and velocity for you, because you will be compromising somewhere...
I hope this one works, but as an old gambler told me, if red comes up 3 times in a row you either bet red or walk away.
If it passes I will buy one or two. Nothing looks better on a pre 64 M70 or a Ruger #1 than a Leupold.
As to them owning the market, for a lot of hunters they pretty much do...
