Dall Sheep - Why so Expensive?

Swap out the word “kill” for “hunt”. You may not even get that Sheep. Kinda changes the perspective anlittle. Some guys want one and are willing to sacrifices to get one. Some guys want one and aren’t willing to make the sacrifices.

Dall Sheep - Why so Expensive?

Just as a reference for guys, a guide outfit General will net less than 40% off a hunt. That would be on the very high end. I asked one outfitter and he figured around 10% profit. Hunting season is short but the season for a guide is all year. Your never done with the business. So you work all...

Lessons Learned by a Rookie Sheep Hunter

Forget the sheep! That caribou is sweet!! Going number 2 in bugs. Check wind. Tightly roll a dozen squares light them on fire and set just upwind. It will smolder and smoke and as they say.... save your azz.

Artic Red Dall Sheep - Jay Scott

I agree with this. A similar story I guided brown bears for a outfit and the boss had a 9’ minimum. After we passed on numerous mid 8’ class bears the client actually threw his gun in the bushes and told me why carry it if I’m Never gonna let him shoot anything. Lol I explained the bosses rules...

Confession of a alaska master guide

I think so. Those gaiters were all like like “we can take it who cares we’re tough blah blah” I set them next to some frozen yogurt that my girls like that have that annoying little Elsa and Anna from the movie Frozen on the package!! Haha boy those gaiters aren’t gonna get a word in edgewise...

Confession of a alaska master guide

My new gaiters have missed the first Sheep hunt of the season. I have a sick kid and was forced to cancel my first hunt. So they sit in my pack waiting.... Sometimes late in the night I hear crying in my garage. I rush out and snap the door open. I figured it was those Kuiu gaiters whining about...

    First AK Dall Sheep Hunt

Man don’t sweat it! Before the internet that was how we all learned to Sheep hunt!! Trial and error. Usually heavy on the error part. Lol I did one solo trip once, loaded my pack. Got into the mountians and then realized I had no room for a sheep in my pack. To much gear and it was gonna be...

Ok. The gaiters are awesome. Man that’s painful to say. But really comfy, a bit warm but that may be good later in the season.

    Sheep Hunt Just Turned Solo

My sleep system is a msr hubba, EE 0 degree quilt and neo air pad for my sheep hunts. I’ve never weighed my set up but I think I’m close to 5lb total weight for my sleep system. I do carry a 12x Noah tarp for siwashing if I need to or for making camp more comfortable if the crap hits the fan...

Confession of a alaska master guide

Sell your Kuiu and send me your CD’s!! So the gaiters fit pretty good, I got large, apparently kuiu boys are a little slender in the calves. I think there’s just enough stretch in them to fit mine. The gray is pretty, and the little ram skull logo is just amazingly artistic. I just love the...

    Who Packs Crampons?

I take my four point instep crampons when I head to goat country on Kodiak. Wet snow will ball up in them but I carry a walking axe and it knocks them clean just fine. Don’t like full crampons.
