What constitutes getting the label "troll" around here, disagreeing with the consensus or what? I didn't notice Lou doing anything but offering his own opinion.
A real darkhorse/sleeper in the superb glass, great low light performance, pretty much set and forget, and durable category is the Meopta R2 1.7-10x42 with illuminated dot. Fantastic package.
I couldn't care less what cartridge you shoot. I was taking issue with your ignorant "testosterone" comment regarding light recoiling rifles/cartridges. It's a ridiculous position to take.
No, "carries" is not accurate, that would be "carried", once. If you had bothered to read Phil's article, you would know that that was a one time deal and that he emphasized that he normally carries a 45 every day. Good try though.
You can't guarantee anything regarding what a scope looks like when it leaves the factory. Not that long ago a new SWFA was shown here with a canted reticle. I doubt that happened during shipping. QC departments do miss stuff occasionally, just the way it is when humans are involved.
Biggest problem for me with Conquest is the focus is super fast and it's easy to overrun sharp focus so you must go back and forth a bit. Also, the eyecups suck for me, had to get the extended versions from Ziess. I wound up selling them anyway.
Lots of great choices in the $1000 range........Nikon MHG, Meostar HD, GPO HD, Maven B1, Conquest HD, Razor HD, Kowa Genesis. Ergonomics play a big role and can be different from one person to the next, so you have to try them out yourself. As far as "used" alpha's go....Swaro has been...
You, atmat, and a couple others with the perpetual redasss need to lighten up and learn how to take a light hearted, tongue in cheek post not so seriously.
I only have one other Leupold scope, a VX3 2.5-8x36 with B&C reticle. I have it on a Tikka T3 7mm08. It launches 140AB's at 2820fps and is zero'd for 215 yds, which makes the hashes line up perfectly for 300, 400, 450, and 500 yd holdovers.
I'll have to go back and look at mine, may not even be the HD model but it really makes no difference to me. Glass is great. Up until I got sick of the Leupold BS with the new regime up in Oregon, I was part of their G&O program, and I got my VX6 when they were first announced, probably why...
LIke lots of things nowadays, people can overcomplicate most anything. I've been using the drill/socket/torch method for a few years now and have never had a problem. My personal experience is to keep it in the flame for about 8 seconds until it just starts to glow then you're done.
Used my Tikka 695 7mag effectively on multitudes of game animals for 25 years, mostly with 160's. As others have mentioned I'd just see if that exact load would shoot in the other Tikka, and bet it will.
Just out of curiosity, what other powders do you have handy?
