Oh, I hadn’t planned on jumping down the broadhead rabbit hole here. I’ll just say I didn’t get the penetration I thought I should’ve and going back to something for my confidence and not because they “failed”. Anybody that wants to know details can PM me.
Keep those raghorn pics coming. My...
Had one last season cover about 300 yards in 10 seconds to my calling. With two arrows in him I could never find him. Notched tag with no meat is the worst. Changing broadheads this year.

As I’ve only had one failed (really hoping he survived) raghorn encounter I am looking at all these rag pics and drooling. September is barely over a month away and I’m giddy as I was 30 years ago hunting whitetail as a teenager. Hope that feeling never fades.

Several years ago my cousin from Indiana wanted to go. We had ten people going but only two hunting. Had horses, trailers, and a camp cook. A family trip.
I was the only one to go. They all cancelled two months before. It was daunting going across the country to the unknown all alone and no...
I live at sea level and take Altitude Advantage every time I go to the mountains. Not saying it helps but for sure doesn’t hurt. I also try to stay at least one night at lower elevation (6-8k) before going all the way up. First year doing that it took me a couple days to catch up because of lack...
Timberhunter I’ve only known of them describing it as CP or possibly under a recall number. They had considerable less problems after they put the new design in the 2019s. Only other problem with the gen 2s is that most are starting to see more mileage (again mine was at 135k and would’ve kept...
I had a gen 2 (2018) that I just traded in on a gen 3 (2022). I work on lease roads and a raptor is the only stock truck that won’t get destroyed after regular use. My gen 2 made it to 135k miles before I traded it in. I wouldn’t have traded it in but the cam phaser was about to go. That is the...
I just traded in my 2018 Raptor for a 2022 gen 3 Raptor. It seems to have even more room in it if that is possible. And I don’t think the cam phaser is an issue on the gen 3s. Can’t wait to get more goodies added to it. Last one turned 136k miles and I hated to let it go. Hope this one goes for...
I am upgrading my truck to a 2022. They have a 2kw onboard generator as an option built into the bed of the truck. The truck I’m purchasing does not have this option from the factory installed but it is one of the designated trucks from Ford to have this option.
Has anyone added an aftermarket...
I’m using the Garmin instinct 2 tactical Solar. My old one (non-solar) crapped out after four years and would hold about a five to seven day charge. The solar at about 60% charge is a month. Has altimeter and all kinds of stuff on it I forget about. Highly recommend.

2023 went better. Still had cattle destroy my camp multiple times but no bear spray. Saw several bulls and unfortunately stuck two twigs into one and never found it. Tag soup is still tag soup even if you notch it.

I hunted way too long before I even attempted elk hunting. Was 41 years old. Knew nothing except I was willing to put in the work which is most of it. Didn’t even see an elk the first year but I hat 7 of them right at dark within about 3-500 yards from me all bugling and talking to me… after...
I’ve got a 2018 Raptor. I drive a lot of lease roads in south Texas that the border patrol drive and they use raptors. My precious truck was a great F-150 platinum and the lease roads ate it up. My Raptor will go 60mph down the roads and not blink. Any time I travel across country it is the he...
I’ve lived in South Texas for 12 years now. I used to hunt all the time when I lived in Indiana. I have never bought a license in TX, let alone hunted. It is cheaper for me to drive back to Indiana or buy an elk tag in Colorado… or both. Deer can be confused with jackelopes as they are all rack...
Leaving the third coast on this Tuesday. And stopping in Denver to watch the Braves play in mile high coors field. Hopefully not the only person with an ATL hat on at the game. Then off to my OTC camp on Thursday to set up and scout before the madhouse opener Labor Day weekend in CO. I better...
Thanks! Last season was a disaster and the bear spray (which my wife urged me to take in addition to the .45 will not be on my pack this year) got caught on my seatbelt harness and ripped the safety off and sprayed it as I was trying to refill my water bladder.
I had cows trample my camp...
2020. I was going to meet about ten members of my family from Indiana (only one other hunting though and it was all his idea). I’m hey were bringing horses which meant I wasn’t limited where I could go because of packout problems. Great trip, but…
I was the only one to show up and have done it...
Different strokes for different folks… or bears. If you’re on the end of 14 days in the mountain it might not matter [emoji23].
