I have to agree with Lawnboi, the highest rated silicone plugs are rated around 27-28 NRR, that actually is about the same for most custom molded ones too since they mostly use a similar material, while most of the better quality foam plugs get you 33 NRR. If you then add 20-30 NRR rated...
For me it really depends where I am shooting; outdoors I normally wear just plugs or muffs unless I am close to someone shooting a braked rifle or shooting an SBR, indoors I always double up.
Sadly customs don't give you any better performance than good foam plugs, assuming you are are using...
Just received the approval today, 08/06, for the second of the two I submitted on 03/11. The first one was approved 07/15. So 127 and 149 days respectively. Both were in a trust with 2 RP's that hold DoD security clearances and that already owns several other NFA items that were approved in the...
I was thinking it might be thread locker so heat was definitely part of the plan once the new barrel vise makes it in, but I have never seen thread locker on a muzzle brake from the factory before so wanted to ask.
Hadn't thought of this before but now I'm starting to wonder if the cerakote...
Was the factory muzzle brake on yours difficult to remove?
Asking because when I went to remove the one on the 223 that I recently picked up and the barrel actually stated to turn in my homemade barrel vise before it came loose, which made me decided to call it quits for the night and to order...
I'm going to just copy a post I made on another forum a while back about my transition to using dots on pistols.
"I was against the idea of optic on a defensive pistol for several years but saw their advantage on range or competition pistols. But about two years ago I started seeing the...
That is what my grandfather told me concerning the rabies shots he had to have after being bitten by a rat in Vietnam at the end of his second tour over there, that would have been sometime between around 67 or 68. Said it was about 16 shots in the stomach over the course of almost a month, and...
I do a bit of both. Over the years I've sold well over 100 guns and for the most part don't miss them, but I do have several that will never be sold due to sentimental value, because they make great backups, or just wanting to keep something in that particular caliber.
When you get around to it, I've found that if you have all the pieces using Acraglas to glue the stock back together is one of the strongest methods.
I also like to drill two to three small holes from inside the action inletting into the grip and epoxy some pieces of carbon fiber arrow shaft...
I mostly use the TTSX when I want deeper penetration or "cleaner" kills, but I am curious about these bullets. I know you said they are not commercially available, but are they experimental or more like lathe turned customs? Understand if you don't want to go into too much detail but still curious.
A 22 Hornet certainly wouldn't be my first choice but I have used a Savage 340 that was reamed out to be a K Hornet to kill about a dozen deer and I my grandfather used the same rifle to kill at least 100 or so that I know of. I'm sure he used other bullets for it over the years but all of the...
Personally I limit my 6ARC to sub 400, that isn't due to it being ineffective beyond that but the fact that I have a 6 Creedmoor that weighs about the same, has a better optic, and launches the same bullet about 300 fps faster to give me a bit flatter trajectory and less wind drift, and for me...
I'll add one more for Kore belts. I used several different leather and nylon gun belts over the years, from Beltman to Wilderness Tactical and most everything in between, and after trying Kore I replaced everything but my battle belt rig with one of theirs.
Awesome that you've found a rifle to take hunting for bear this year.
However I would advise against the ultra-ultralight AR. I run tactical rifle and pistol courses as my side-gig and I have seen way too many reliability issues with the super ultra rifle that have came to the classes. Some of...
I'll second Krylon. I use the specialty camo paint that's ultra flat, and I don't clearcoat it because I found that even the matte or flat made it too shiny for my liking. Plus that allows the paint to chip and fade from use which I like on my rifles.
I did that with my first RA, it helped a lot. I used a router to slot the honeycomb and then epoxied the shafts in place. The most difficult part was trying to get the shafts wedged in-between the front of the magwell and the end of the stock without damaging the stock or arrows.
If I were to...
I have been slowing reading through this thread for the past week or so and I have found it very interesting considering that it almost exactly mirrors the experience I watched in a lot of my family and their friends growing up when they watched me and a cousin of mine taking deer with a 22-250...
