    The Deer Aging Thread

Just realized I never updated this... we did the aged vs non-aged test. Basically, it was all really good. There was a difference between the two, but it wasn't profound. My wife claimed she couldn't really tell a difference. To me the aged cut was definitely less saturated than the non-aged...

MT - SB143 Opposition to Special Guide Licenses - Trying to make this easy...

If anyone gets a reply from a Senator indicating For or Against this bill make sure to post it up. I'll update this post as we go. With a little luck, we can crowdsource our way to knowing whether or not this bill has the votes to pass. Full Senate vote 2/15/21 NO (23) YES (27) 1 N...

MT - SB143 Opposition to Special Guide Licenses - Trying to make this easy...

I try to keep up on legislation that may affect me. This Montana bill, SB143, giving outfitters and guides 60% of the state's licenses seems especially... gross (the people of MT voted down this bill via ballot initiative in 2010). I know there are others like me on this forum who oppose this...

    Bettendorf, IA...potential move.

@xX45Xx Another Bettendorf resident here (@bdg848 I'll be dropping you a PM shortly, we should link up) Overall I'd say this is a pretty fair assessment. I think you'd like it here OP. Public access in Iowa is pitifully low. We're 47th in the nation as far as the percentage of acres of public...

    Sig BDX

I've got BDX rangefinder, but no scope. Not really interested in the whole "system" but I will say, I love having a ballistic solution (set of mils to dial) pop up right inside my range finder whenever I range a target.

    The Deer Aging Thread

Ended up not doing the comparison on New Years like I planned (didn't have the aged quarter cut up yet). I thawed a bit of both aged and regular to have for dinner tonight for my wife and I. I'll make some notes and make a post on her thoughts and mine.

    Suppressor for .30 cal

TBAC is pretty much a lock. I'd say that's pretty well established at this point. Two other legit, but lesser-known options worth considering: Energetic Armament - Lux 7.9in - 9.84oz https://energeticarms.com/lux-titanium-rifle-silencer/ All titanium. Mates with a variety of mount systems, or...

    Rethinking "Leave no trace"

I work in the solid waste industry (we operate a landfill, recycling center, e-waste and hazmat facility). Your perspective is valid @Hammockhead - not littering a campsite with PowerBar wrappers and Mountain House bags (i.e. Leave No Trace) is only a small part of the impact we all have from...

    Wild game holiday cooking

Frenched whitetail backstrap in our house. First time leaving the ribs on the backstrap. Will definitely do it again on future deer. Doesn't change the flavor at all, but makes for a great presentation.

    Hi from Iowa

Nice. Spring bear hunt is on my list. I'm over the Quad Cities area. Maybe someday there will be some sort of Iowa Rokslide meetup created. Seems to be a decent number of us on here

    BWCAW info/ideas

I've used Sawbill Outfitters twice. Family operation, super friendly, allows you to go a la carte on gear rental if I remember correctly or things haven't changed. I'll likely go through them again when my family gets to a point that the BWCA is doable. Not a ton of info, but it's something...

NRA Board of Directors - do you know any of them?

Shoot, where do I begin... Yeah... I know some them. I was heavily involved on the 2A front at the state level. I'm a past president of the Iowa Firearms Coalition (IFC), the NRA Affiliate for the State of Iowa. I stepped down from my position approx 18 months ago for a variety of reasons but...
