And a gun you will carry and can shoot well is way better than one that’s too heavy, or bulky, and hard to shoot accurately.

Hiking safely in big game country

I used to teach bear and mtn lion safety every year and had a good friend nearly killed by a momma moose. Leashed dogs is a must in bear/moose country. Lots of people have gotten messed up or killed when their dogs run back to them for help with a bear or cow moose on their tail. The advice on...

Hiking safely in big game country

Given what you’re saying, a light lever gun in 357 or 44 would likely be the way to go. A 20” barrel version would have more capacity than a 30-30 or 45-70 and would recoil less.

Hiking safely in big game country

45-70 leverguns have substantial recoil and can be hard to handle for inexperienced shooters. If you are going the lever gun route. Stick with a 30-30, 357, or 44 mag.

Being that you are in Canada and handguns are not a thing, Mossberg 590 20 ga loaded with slugs and put a sling on it. 20 ga has less recoil and is easier to shoot. Muzzleblast isn’t as bad as a centerfire rifle either. Practice with it using cheap, light birdshot loads to get familiar with the...

    Hunting with a Shotgun Suppressor

Most of the American shotgun suppressors attach via choke tube threads and add significant length and muzzle weight. Likely not an issue for turkeys or waterfowl. I’ve wanted to do an integrally suppressed 20 ga O/U for a few years kinda like the one in the linke YouTube video below. Figured I’d...

    Dear Tikka….if you’re listening.

No 223 length action or 223 chambering. The offer a 22-250, but it’s a 1:14” twist. They do offer a 243 short action in 1-8” twist, but no 6 Creedmoor. The 243 Peak version has a short action and a carbon fiber stock but comes in at roughly the same weight as a Tikka T3X superlight. I don’t...

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

My 17 year old daughter who has been shooting her whole life says basically the same thing about my suppressed 223 Tikka. She is the only woman who has qualified for our local long distance shooting range and shoots it out to 600 from field positions. Taking recoil out of the equation makes a...

    Building Muzzleloader

This is one of the biggest problems with modern bolt and inline muzzleloaders. The regulation of these guns by state fish and wildlife agencies varies widely between states and even within state. If you set up a gun for your state, you may not be able to use it in others and your own state may...

    Dear Tikka….if you’re listening.

I also agree on the 6 cm chambering. Would love to see 223 magazines with springs that work for more than a few hundred rounds. But if there really is a Santa Claus, Tikka would make an ultralight T3x with an actual 223 length action and a short threaded barrel.
