I shot mule deer at 93 yards with 145 gr ELDX. It was a pass through and he dropped on the spot.
I think bullet placement is probably playing a bigger factor here than the bullet selection.
Some interesting new data. My original ladder test used Federal 270 brass.
I bought some Peterson 270 Win brass and ran the same ladder test. My velocities dropped by about 50 fps!!
If I was doing custom chambering I'd just get a 300 Win Mag and chamber such it seats long bullets appropriately. I'm also not interested in 300 RUM or Lapua because the main reason that the 300 PRC interests me is it provides long mags and fast twist rate out of the box due to SAAMI spec.
I currently have a 270 Win Tikka T3x, my only rifle. Looking for a bigger gun for elk and long range shooting. I handload all of my ammo. Want fast twist barrel and ability to seat bullets long.
Would get a Tikka T3x 300 Win Mag if it met those criteria.
Looking at either a CA Mesa or Bargara.
270 is back on the menu boys!!
5 shot groups at 3 powder weights for some statistical data. Rounds were shot in round robin method to reduce impact of barrel temperature.
So I found a really nice node around 53gr. Shoots really nice groups. But COAL is 3.753" when bullet is seated 0.020" away from lands. So now my issue is that I can't fit these loads in the mag.
I've looked into doing a AICS conversion but it seems like those magazines have feeding issues with...
Is an aftermarket stock really that much of an improvement over factory tikka stock? I haven't seen much data reflect this. I might consider this if there ie enough data to support this but otherwise some of these stocks are about as much as getting a new rifle.
Thanks for the advice. I'll give it a shot with H4831sc powder if can get my hands on it.
I don't want to get too much into the wildcat category since I'd want a cartridge with good component availability. 6.5CM seems to have passed that threshold. I'd like to get a low recoil cartridge and...
This guy keeps describing himself as a "7-th generation Arkansan"..... If there is one thing in life you have absolutely no control over it's your birth place. Let's pick a better adjective dude.
Mt Goat hunt was the best but I feel like there was so much story that was missing.
I think they need to do away with the 22 minute per episode format they've carried over from old media.
