I'd bring it. You're day hunting, so there probably won't be a lot of other weight in your pack. A midday cup of hot cocoa or coffee is a real luxury to supplement your snacks.
For the most part, I much prefer to hunt by myself so I can enjoy my experience in peace, instead of having to sooth and cottle to others' needs and feelings.
I'd give anything to hunt with my dad or gramps again, but other than that, I'm fine solo.
742 3006 that I got for my 15th Christmas in '71. Killed a boxcar full of deer with it in a little over 40 years. These days my primary is a Montana in 7-08.
You have to pay for your rifle case as a checked bag anyway, so might as well get a two rifle Pelican case (or the Harbor Freight knock off). I'm always well under the 50lb limit.
Looking to cross at Sweet Grass Montana. Form 5589 is already filled out (do I need more than 1 copy? Hell, I'll make a couple of copies anyway), and just ordered some trigger locks.
@HandgunHTR, the shotgun seems to meet unrestricted criteria. Straight '70s Beretta semi auto 20ga field gun...
I'll be driving from the US into Canada at the end of Sept., for an Alberta moose hunt. I'll be crossing the border with two rifles, a Kimber Montana bolt rifle and a Savage 99 lever gun. I'll also have a Beretta AL-2 semi auto shotgun with 26" bbl., since I'll be stopping in Wyoming for some...
I'm heading for a moose hunt in Alberta, the first week in Oct. My primary rifle will be a Savage 99F in .308 Win, with factory irons. If, after a few days, I can't get within 150 yards, I'll trade out to a scoped Montana in 7-08. Really hoping to get it done old school though.
I have an inverter outlet in my truck console. I'm told it's not enough to power the freezer compressor. I'm not looking to install one with larger capacity for a one shot deal.
Thanks.
Yeah, that's my intention. I have a 2500 watt inverter, but it won't fit with all my other gear. So the freezer will be a cooler while I'm on the road, and plugged in while at the motels. I'd even be willing to pay a few bucks extra.
If I'm lucky, I'll be heading home from Alberta in Oct. with a freezer full of frozen moose meat. It will be a 4-5 day drive, and I'll be overnight in motels. I'm hoping to run an extension cord to the freezer while I'm there.
Has anyone here done this, and if so, was the motel okay with it or not?
I have had mine for over 3 yrs now. Even when I'm on the tripod with my 10.5x44s, the 8x33s are always on my chest. They've become essential to me.
And yes, they are threaded for a stud.

I just called Sweet Grass crossing today. They transfered me to a Fish and Wildlife officer. She told me the same thing @Buffalo170 posted above.
