I use what is probably THE most basic load for 140gr ELD-M for 6.5 creedmoor: 41.5 grains of H4350.
This is from a T3X Lite cut/threaded to 20" and suppressed. Original stock, just shaved to free-float. Nice thing is it's between .7 and .9 MOA every time with 10-shot groups in stable wind...
First things first, have you put it back into the Rokstock to see if is still works in that one? From your discussion, everything as fine until you took it out, and you didn't say if the problem persisted once back in.
As a self-declared noob preparing to reload for your rifle the first time, especially with a hunting rifle, I think looking at ladders, minor changes in powder load, etc is too complicated. At this point, you just need to make decent ammo and go shoot. Then tweak and fine tune as/if needed later...
I really like my KUIU Chugach, but it did start wetting out after awhile just like the Arcteryx Beta AR I had before it. I still wear after a few seasons because it's very light, comfortable, good features (pit zips, useful drawstring locations), durable enough for my needs, stays waterproof...
Terrible proposal. It would mean I could no longer shoot a basic 120 pound Blacktail buck with a .223 when many, many people do so successfully around here (and on much larger animals). Shouldn't have to be said so often on Rokslide, but the bullet construction and velocity at impact matter so...
But it looks cool! Totally a style choice, but I already have a Smoke Composites handguard that I really like and just got a Smoke Composites carbon fiber buttstock, so I'm going with their handguard. These builds sure can be a budget build and ultralight, which is super cool, but as someone...
I've seen a few posts about folks using the TN Arms carbon fiber or polymer lower, but not going with their lower parts kit, opting for NFA or something else. What is the reason for the dislike of the TN Arms LPK? Too fragile? Too heavy?
Can't a Nosler Partition be fired from an easier shooting setup?
I have experience with 130 and 150 grain in 270 (just out to 260 yards on mountain goat and deer), and they were great. But I don't know why the 140 grain wouldn't be great in the 6.5 Creedmoor, or the 100 grain in 6mm, etc at...
You should read the 223 thread from the beginning (https://rokslide.com/forums/threads/223-for-bear-mountain-goat-deer-elk-and-moose.130488/), I think you’ll enjoy the discussion a lot (including some of the points you brought up above having been debated with hard data and extensive field...
Living in Alaska and having your rifle here year-round, especially on the coast, stainless is the way to go. But for flying in and staying a week for a hunt, a blued rifle is no problem, just lightly oil it before the trip and dry it well once you're back out of the field.
The 270 with a...
Perfect! Looks like you are all set. I got the goat in my profile pic with a Savage 270 a few years ago shooting 150gr partitions (I've since moved down to a suppressed 6.5 creedmoor for my last two mountain goats, and I'll be using the cm again this year).
Assuming you are a non-resident...
Thanks! It is gorgeous up here. I live here, so I don’t have to worry about cutting my trip short. If I’m lucky enough to get two at once, I can still go out again in another week or two and get two more.
