What non-hunting brands have you found for hunting that have become ‘go-to’ pieces ?

I utilize a few non hunting brands, but the most obscure find was last year when I wanted a puffy for late season hunts. Was going to buy one and then looked at my $100 LL Bean ski jacket and thought the insulation liner in there might work. It's light, packable and crazy warm. And free. :D

    Colorado Draw Update Thread

I don't know of a date, but the leftover list usually comes out around July 26. I would imagine leftover draw happens a week or so prior to that.

Deadloading/taking it easy before the hunt?

Look at a marathon training schedule and see how they taper you down a few weeks before the event. I always do better when I increase calories a little and back the workouts down to about 60-70% of normal for the last two weeks. The last 3-4 days I'll just do a couple short runs of 2 miles or so.

    Anyone keep a Journal ?

I keep a basic journal in Excel. Mainly for memories of each trip - When/where, general weather pattern, who I hunted with, animals killed and interesting things I saw. It's fun to go back and read every now and then, because it's easy to forget what happened after a few years.

    Why not East?

Great thread, some funny chit in here! I think the simple answer is those of us out west don't have to travel far for incredible whitetail hunting. Living in CO there is great WT hunting on the eastern plains and then you have KS and NE within a few hours. I love how my seasons line up - work...

    Phelps amp diaphram review

My preferred method is to have my 3 year old son on my lap while we watch an elk hunting video on youtube. I use a reed/tube, he uses a call with a built in diaphragm. The rage in her eyes when she's outnumbered is priceless. :D

    Colorado Draw Update Thread

TexasCub - You will receive a list of licenses that were not drawn in the mail, and you can mail in an application for a shot at one of those. It's a secondary draw that gives you a chance at tags before the leftover list goes public. My pref points aren't updated either, but I got an email...

    Mountain Bike Training Thread

10 miles for me today, very hot here so the long climb at the end turned into a hike-a-bike because I was drained. Still need to get a lot better, but it's great exercise.

    Mountain Bike Training Thread

Your body will tell you. For me it's feeling weak, sluggish, sore, extremely hungry. I rode 15 miles on Saturday at Buffalo Creek. Up Shinglemill Trail, then the dirt road loop back around to the parking lot. Beautiful place, lots of fun. Need to get better at this and increase my technical...

    Colo Backdoor Sheep!

My guess is there isn't a back door, but people will start seeing credit card hits when they run the draw like in other states.

    Mountain Bike Training Thread

I just bought a new bike in December to switch up my training. Great lung and leg workout, hopefully it translates to strong hiking this fall. Living in Denver, I'm spoiled with a lot of great mtb trails nearby and not much snow this winter. I'm a complete rookie, I hope to get better over...

    Why so many brown coats?

It's also wise to get off the top of the mountain when a thunderstorm comes in so you don't get struck by lightning. Not wearing brown and getting off the mountain in bad weather lower the odds even further of something that I agree is already a rare occurrence. Growing up in MN, rule #1...

    Why so many brown coats?

I went with the Sitka Jetstream jacket in green, I won't wear brown in the woods during rifle season either. Or buy a coyote colored pack, I have a green Exo. It just takes one idiot that thinks I'm an elk...

    Off Topic - Basement Plumbing

In my last house I did the basement bathroom using PEX, with a crimp tool from Home Depot. Worked like a charm, plumbed the whole thing in about 30 minutes. I can't speak to crimp vs. press vs. expansion though. I just know I'll never go back to sweating copper....
