I was on the s2h podcast archive and can’t find one of the first where form was on there and I see there is a couple missing between 30 and 40. Is there a reason I can’t find them?
Yes. Every single starline looks like that after firing. Like I said I noticed during load dev and thought it was weird. I could load a round with starline brass and the cycle it unfired and not get those markings. And that is the area it is binding when sharpied. I thought I had a clicker...
And the reason I’m clarifying is because if you are talking about the roughness of the unsharpied fired case, every single starline has done that since day one and have never seen that on on of the frontier cases. Which is why one of my initial thoughts was brass. Like whatever is going on...
Just clarifying- what are you calling the imprint. The sharpied case or the fired case laying on its side.
I agree with you something is in the chamber. It a build up of something and that’s what I don’t fully understand. Surely it is not rust. But the color isn’t like anything I’ve seen...
Yeah I’ve typically been a clean after a couple shooting sessions but I don’t believe it would have helped here unless it’s rust. I’ve only ever cleaned the bore and never scrubbed the chamber as I’m doing now.
My plan is the clean it out again with wire brush. Oil lightly and the clean oil out as much possible. My true concern is going forward how to prevent it from happening again and what it actually is.
No case lube. I do very light lube the neck just to run an expander to true up the mouth. It’s then wiped but it is a super light layer and usually only get on the inside of case mouth.
I don’t think that imprint on case is buildup. I noticed it during load dev when I was throughly checking...
Just some more photos of fired cases. I don’t feel pressure is part of problem but I have notice to diff in the appearance of fired and unfired cases that starts about mid body and goes to the shoulder. I have not seen this in other brass
Also I ran a wire brush and then cleaned chamber when...
So went all in on a rss last fall. Have prob 3-400 Hornady frontier rounds through it and 50ish hand loads of 77 tmk with starline 556 brass and 23.3 grains 8208. I worked up to 23.5 with no signs of pressure and settled at 23.3 charge weight. Everything has been pretty good until about 2...
I ended up trying the starline 556 in my 223 bolt gun. Been very happy with first loading. I did run an expander button and chamfer and deburred.
Has anyone had enough reloads on the brass to know how it held up. And bonus points if you compared the 556 to the 233 brass lol. Just curious...
