The chronograph should be at the top of the list.
Bags can make a huge difference - just ask a BR or F Class guy. Find a set that you are comfortable with and fits the rifle well. Leather will prevent movement once you get set.
No sleds.
Take tools, rags, notebooks, etc.
The range will be...
I think we are all saying the same thing about BDC - it all comes down to knowing the subtensions of the reticle and not relying on the 'yardage marks'.
Several ways to skin a cat.
I think the same.
I feel solid out to 600 - but on five separate days with different conditions? Also, there are days here when you don't have business shooting at 200 due to wind!
I hope the OP gets his cartridge picked and goes and shoots the barrel out. That's what makes LR Hunting possible.
I've often thought of this - what are my real limits. A qualification test:
Let's pick 700 yards.
Go out to the range on 5 seperate days - so conditions are different.
Take you first shot of the day at 700.
Hit - great, now make that hit the following four days and you are good to go.
Miss -...
On the bright side, you are in Idaho.
None of it makes sense. I paid more for primers (from GunBroker) than I have ever paid when this all started. I feel like a genius now - they are either not there or a lot more than I paid.
Partitions have been my problem. They are starting to show up now.
Good luck!
I'd hunt the M70 as is and not worry about it. It may get some character along the way, but each imperfection will have a story.
Take the money you want to spend and focus on reloading, shooting and improving your skill with the one rifle. When you know your dope by heart and can...
Confidence can go a long way in shooting - you'll shoot much better. I know where the reticle is when I pull the trigger and know if I have a hit or miss. Confidence in the gear.
My T3/SWFA combo has never seen the inside of a gun case. Thrown in the back piled under gear and driven cross...
Currently, the Z3 BRH. It's just a MIL reticle with wind holds.
I've tried to find just a capped 3x9 with mil reticle, but it is rare (or I'm bad at looking). Trijicon and the Z3 are all I've dug up. Found the Z3 local at a discounted price, plus it has the wind corrections as you look down the...
Sometimes I picture @Formidilosus sitting at home laughing, "Can you believe I talked these guys into dropping their sh^t on the ground"
Best practical joke ever.
308 is not 30-06
30-06 is not 300wm
The only way I know to get more is barrel length and long throat - but why run loads at the ragged edge? No room for error or changing conditions.
Really, keep it simple for hunting. A basic 3x9 will do 99% of what I need. Drops on the glass do the other 1%.
I have moved back to basics over time when it comes to hunting rifles/glass.
