Denver is nice because it’s a direct flight. What I’d hate more than a 6 hour drive is loosing any of my luggage during a layover!
PS, these roads are no joke. My advice is to heed everyone else’s advice and bring chains! I hiked off of the paved road this morning.
Well, southwest came through and I’m currently wheels up at 30k feet! Next stop is Denver to get my rental truck. With luck I should be able to scout a bit this afternoon before it gets dark.
Weather for the opener doesn’t look great.
With all the airline delays going on I’m hoping, fingers crossed, to get into my hunting area on the 1st. Can’t wait! Hopefully the weather cooperates during the hunt and those bucks are on their feet during daylight!
That’s a Brittany, correct? If so, how old was he when you started bringing him? I have a bird hunting machine of a Britt. I just can’t help but to think he’d want to “hunt” if I took him with. I’d love the companionship, but think I’d be babysitting more than hunting.
I’ll bring this post back to the top. I’m finalizing plans and narrowing down good looking areas. My trip will be Jan 1st through the 6th.
Anyone else have advice?
Smart move on the 14x16! A comfortable camp makes all the difference. I sold my tipi and stove with ZERO regrets. A hot wall tent is absolutely amazing for moral while hunting.
This may be unpopular, but a tipi and stove! I bought into the hype and got the worst sleep ever! I decided being comfortable, warm, well rested and fed trump any advantage a tipi gave me. I’d rather hike further everyday and be comfortable than suffer/survive in a tipi.
I found this site, http://mobile.snowforecast.com/usa-forecasts/southwest-usa/colorado/
I’m not sure how accurate it is, but I searched for the closest resort to my hunt area. They give snow depth at both the base and summit. As of today it looks like 6” on the ground and the possibility of...
There are many breeders with birttanys at or under 30lbs. They will check all the boxes you are looking to fill.
My Britt is bigger, at 40lbs. You’ll be very happy with a Brittany.
Does anyone who lives in the area have a weather report for the flat tops? It looks like a winter storm is coming in this weekend. What are the local reports projecting for snow? How about sheep mountain? Any snow on top yet?
Thank you!
I have the circulate function too. I dont have a wood burner, but rather a fireplace. Even with the circulate on, my living room could be 75 degrees and the furthest bedroom would be 62-63 degrees. This would be with outside temps in the 10 degree range.
Here’s my 2 year old Brittany, Parker. He came from a great blood line and though young, is already an amazing hunter. He digs up birds everywhere. I disappoint him way more often with my shooting than he disappoints me.
