Agree - I don't use detachable lids, as a rule. If I'm packing in to a base camp, sometimes I'll take the exo blaze orange lid to keep some items in camp and to secure the antlers on a packout. My other day pack has an attached lid with a small zip pocket; that prevents flopping and it has just...
Where is the pain? In the belly of the hamstring, or where it attaches near the glutes? If the latter, I believe there is a concept along the lines of hamstring insertional tendonosis. I believe that can flow from a long-term injury to the hamstring, such that the underlying tendons become...
Yup! I tapped around my bow to make sure everything was tight, heard a slight rattle, the draw stop on the top cam was loose enough to rattle around! Tightened it up and good to go, good reminder.
I have the mountain hardwear kor preshell wind jacket in the camo color, and it's great. Quiet, no shine, breathable, affordable. Wore it archery hunting last year with no issues. I *believe* the airshell is the updated preshell. (That's why I was able to grab the preshell for like 60 bucks.) I...
I know there is interest in these type of pieces; just saw this one. It also has the full zip and hood that folks seems to be asking for, but not the shell face of the ambient. Also looks like heavier insulation than the ambient.

I love reading these articles. They tried to do that with some pronghorn when I was living in Santa Fe; I think they made a short movie about it. Would be interesting to see this done with a larger plains animal (elk, perhaps, when they lived primarily on the plains) and a group of 5-10 guys who...
The term public road has different meanings. If there’s a road across public land, and it’s not designated as a public road by the agency, it’s not a “public road” open to motorized travel. But the agency can grant permits or easements to specific people to use the road. But the permits or...
If you're looking at a "naked" alpha direct, consider this: https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/38832937/men's-super-sevens-fleece-pullover-hoodie
It's Primaloft Evolve, same insulation as used in the Sitka Ambient but without the hard face that is on the Ambient. So it is quite similar to the cottage...
Interesting. Maybe track for a bit and see how much protein you’re getting.
Edit: if it helps, and for context, if it’s hotter than usual or I’m dehydrated, it shows for me through elevated heart rate for the pace. Insufficient calories comes through as general fatigue but not specific to...
Sorry, but no one here has enough information to make real suggestions. Much less one as extreme as saying eat a carnivore diet. You complained about a performance issue. Carnivore diet is not a performance diet. A sudden drop in performance could just as easily come from not eating enough...
It would appear so.
I’m not an experienced rider. But the outfitter and all the guides wore their packs all the time. Never said anything about it and I ever thought different. Heck, I was wearing my pack and carrying my bow on a sling.
I did a guided horseback trip last year, wore my normal daypacks no problem and my bow with a sling. (Sierra designs flux capacitor and exo 3600.) Maybe I’m just too dumb to know better! We also rode only 1 hourish each day and hunted on foot the rest of the day, 3ish hour ride in and out.
Folks above have it right regarding the eating. Lower portions (but still keep sustainable, no need to cut too much too fast, you have a lifetime to shed the weight). And make healthier substitutions bit by bit. Gotta be sustainable.0
For working out, I’d suggest 1/2 hour to 1 hour walking...
My parents did it over the course of a few summers, powerful experience. I don’t have any particular tips other than enjoy. I think they used the resource you linked and it was good.
Two good books to read before/while you go...
Lifelong Boisean here. I agree with everything on this thread! It ain’t like it used to be, but it’s pretty dang good. If you move here, just try to help keep it that way!
