I was on a hunt with my friend for a cow moose last year. 2x shots from his 270 and it was lights out. 220m shot, and the second shot was to make sure she didn’t go anywhere. Either gun will work, 30-06 probably better though
Interested in which widget you use to fill up your forager as it’d come in handy for some of my trips. I love my forager, but I’d agree that without a load , it’s more tippy than a canoe. It’s also a slog on flat water, but I’m looking at getting this...
I know she’s getting older, but I’ve really had my eye on a 325WSM for a couple of years now. Do any of you guys still run one? I reload so no issues with ammo except for primers.
I primarily hunt in the foothills and mountains but also do hunting in the parklands. I hunt solo a lot, and in...
Hauled out a cow moose last year with my Stone XL x-curve frame. I’m 6’1” and 230lbs. Heaviest load was ~130lbs and it was up and out of a deep valley. Worked great for me.
Been following this guy for a couple years. Something seemed off, even more off when he started to take videos down over a year ago. Wasn't surprised with the conviction, but also it's not strict enough.
I can’t say specifically for the magnas or trackers, but I’ve gotten 3 years out of a discontinued pair of vivos with probably 1000kms in them before I got holes. Leaking at the rand-material interface started at about 500kms
I like to run a bit bigger and have a looser fit. I’m a size 11.5 normally, but am running a 12 in magnas. Having a looser fit is a little more forgiving in crazy terrain. When I say looser, I don’t mean floppy, just enough room that you could put a pair of wool socks on.
Another vote for the GSI microlite. Had the same one for 7 years now. Hunting, fishing, white water canoeing trips, and a damn good bottle for the gym. It does the job.
Best bet is to stay in Leduc and call the local butchers in the area ahead of time. Real deal meats (20km from airport) does game processing and will most likely keep the meat in the freezer for you.
Mindful Hunter. Cuts the bs and isn’t connected to brands. Journal of mountain hunting and frontiersman gear’s films are great too, although there is some brand influence. Used to like Gritty way back but now it’s just complex commercials imo. I’m sick of all the branding taking over. Just my...
Thermarest ultralight cot. Planning on modifying it with pultruded carbon rods instead of aluminum and replacing the top material with Xpac vx07 topper. I’m sure that will alter the weight to a little lighter. Frankly, the stock product materials suck.
Hey all, fairly new here (been watching Rokslide for years tho)… but a couple other things I've done from Alberta and Saskatchewan to Alaska that have helped me with my SXL in my redcliff for keeping the stove pumping heat for longer:
1) Line the outside of the stove with large flat rocks. The...
