I’ll have to check into that. I know I can for trapping if it’s so far away from the set.
I didn’t even consider throwing out some coyote vocals to them.
Getting ready to go attempt to smoke some wolves at night with my thermal scope. Any ideas how I should go about it? Is it more or less the same as doing coyote hunting stands?
Throw some wounded animal sounds through the fox pro, scan for a while, then relocate half a mile or so and repeat?
Definitely possible. Sometimes sliding off the side of a steep mountain to get down or around. I’ve covered so much ground that the hair on the front of my legs rubbed off. I found one place with sign that looked less than a week old.
I noticed that specifically in the last two years I don’t...
Not looking for sympathy and as I said I don’t want it easy. If I wanted it easy I’d go sit on a log 500 yards from the main road like all of the overweight rifle hunters.
It sounds like this is sadly becoming the norm and ill either have to get used to it or do something else.
Going to look...
I didn't even think of the effect that may be having. I sure hope so...
Wow. I would definitely not be hunting if it was that bad. Hunting appeals to me by going out into the wilderness/back country and using skill to locate animals and stalk them... not...whatever that is.
Part of the reason I moved to Idaho was to enjoy the vast public land and hunting opportunities. Rifle season turned into an absolute joke pretty quickly. Opening day sounds like a war zone and there is someone on every ridge. Campers and tents stack up like a circus. I can only imagine how...
I’m so sick of this unit. Talked to another hunter who was parked there today and said six of the guys have been him back and forth. Tons of boot tracks up there and no new sign.
I did another 12 miles without seeing any sign and hearing nothing.
Well damn. Went back and came in from above. After a few hours calling and moving in closer I went into the bedding and feeding areas. Looks like no ones been back.
Even sticking to 70% 1rm leaves me shakey on shots If I don’t have at least 2 full days of recovery.
Interesting about the heavy load/low volume approach. I have noticed less fatigue doing that over more reps, to the point of wondering if it’s even doing anything for me. I guess one month of...
I have the opposite question. How do you guys continue to do normal gym stuff during elk season? I don’t want to do back, arms, or legs when that could mess up my hunt after I’ve invested so much time and energy in finding an elk. I’ve just been doing cardio chest and core for the last 3 weeks.
Haha good point…. I guess I was thinking the season is almost over and if it’s a lost cause I certainly don’t want to donate a day to that spot. Would rather go a mountain over if he likely got pushed.
I wish I could upload the video here.
25 yards behind a big bush/tree. Do you think your chances of shooting him or higher if you stay put and continue to call or try to actively move around it to shoot him?
Shame I didn’t even know what he was saying. I was guessing it was something bad like...
It definitely looked like sign from more than just one. It's hard to know because they are all so quiet.
If I get in a situation like this again where a bull is close but giving me nervous grunts to show myself, what should I do? Should I have just "showed myself" by stepping around the brush...
I have been a part of nowhere near that many. But I have tracked friends animals at times they gave up. My buddy shot a deer that same day. I found a drop smaller than the size of a a deer tick and told him to come look for it in front of me. After several minutes he gave up and asked me to...
I'm fairly certain he did not wind me. Pretty sure he physically saw me, but he came back with my call so maybe he just got spooked from the sound of me walking on branches?
Big feed area next to where he was. Looks like he (or others) have been up there for weeks.
After a ton of hiking I finally got on an elk. I was hiking up through dark timber in the morning. Unfortunately I got impatient calling and after 10 minutes without a response I began moving up again. A bull was coming in at around 80 yards and I spooked him. I dropped down and let out a cow...
I’ve only shot a couple of big game animals with archery. Last week I shot my first mule deer buck. Double lung shot. He ran 30-50 yards and hit the ground.
After finding him I back tracked to look for blood. There wasn’t a single drop from where I shot him to his body. He didn’t even have any...
Does this sound like bad genetics or like he was injured?
One antler is forked. But it looks more like two single spikes growing from his skull. The other is abnormally long with a tiny fork at the end. This side was disconnected from the skull and free floating. After cleaning up the skull...
Yeah. It's almost like I was doing that by asking others with more experience how I might improve. Nowhere did I bitch with an "I can't" attitude. I asked how I can. But you'd have to have spent more than 5 seconds reading to know that, so I understand your mistake. Even though the title is...
