Trapped my first wolf today after a ton of work and money invested. Collected my $2500 bounty. Got my permit signed for using night vision and thermals in a few weeks. Bought a new RZR XP4 turbo with tracks on the way. Game time.
Thanks for the reply. I’m definitely getting a Garman alpha immediately.
i’m getting him at the end of the hunting season so I will have plenty of time over the winter and spring to get him well trained with basic obedience.
I won’t get to interact personally with the dogs or breeder/trainer...
I really only want one dog to begin with. The only reason I considered it was because he said it would be easier (and cheaper). If that’s not true, and one dog is enough to start treeing lions then that will be easier.
Ok, thanks for clearing that up. I had a feeling that would be an issue so I'll just stick to lions and maybe bears. FYI recovery dogs are legal here but it's not worth it if it's going to make the desired game harder to get.
As for 1 vs 2- The trainer said I would have a much easier time...
I have some questions that I'm having trouble finding answers to.
I'm getting one or two Walkers around Christmas. Is getting a second one going to be very beneficial? I do worry about sending one off with a high wolf population.
I'm primarily getting them for lions and bear. Ideally I'd like...
Who's good with physics? Wouldn't a higher velocity with smaller projectile carry more kinetic energy and be more likely to exit?
1/2 mass x velocity ^2? I plugged 55 grains at 3900fps in and then 100 grains at 2900 fps. The 100 grain carried a bit more kinetic energy.
Am I doing that right?
Just looking for the least damaging of the two options. Most of my fur is from trapping and I don't shoot all that many, but I want to make sure I get the better option between the two since reloading is a PITA.
I know bullets like the Varmageddon work well for dropping them, does that also...
For anyone reading this in the future. I ended up getting the e incinerator and I’m less than impressed. While it’s nice how compact it is I doubt it will keep me warm in really cold weather. I’ve been wearing it around hunting on 50 degree nights without getting hot. I think my cheap army...
Getting ready to reload my .243 for wolves and coyotes. Curious what you guys have experienced as far as loads being less damaging to hides. Should I be going for a smaller bullet and high velocity or a larger bullet going slower? I shot a coyote with a 100 grained going 2900 and while it didn’t...
Pretty sure I don't want the stratus line since I already own the ascent lineup for warm weather and mountain pants and a Jetstream jacket with a liner for cold.
I'm good with my mountain pants and Jetstream jacket in conditions down to 0 as long as I'm moving. I'm looking for an outer layer...
Why would someone go through all the trouble of trying to match up google earth maps over the state of Idaho for a unit that I'm saying is blown out and sucks lol. If they do more power to them...
Thanks guys. I’ll check into the armor I didn’t know that existed. Hopefully if it works out I’ll get one or two more so they’re a little more safe together.
Thanks for the advice.
I planned on doing that until I went back and saw another hunter parked there. I talked to him and he said he was going to check the wallows. I asked him if he hunter here much and apparently he was friends with the 6 other people there that had been hunting that spot for...
