I will immediately be doing training and lessons as soon as I decide on which horse to get. I don’t plan on racing up to the mountains alone with him as soon as I get him
Why is speed desirable in this type of horse? Being new to horses the thought of going fast on any of them of a mountain doesn’t sound appealing.
I watched some YouTube woman who exclusively uses draft horses for trail riding and she said that her horse is usually at the front before too long...
A buddy called me and said they're using them up in the mountains to log and pull timber over long distances even in snow up to the riders feet. He said I wouldn't need a second horse to pack out gear or meat at all. Does this sound correct? One person said great horse for it, another said terrible.
Is a Percheron going to do ok for mountain hunting and general trail riding? Looking at getting a horse very soon and love these guys, but if a quarter horse is going to be 100x times better than I will avoid them. I want to be able to pack in 2-3 days (minimal gear) for hunting and back country...
Well tomorrows the last day and I have no idea where to go. I went back to where I got on those bulls and they look like they haven’t been back since. Another year failed 😣
Idk what your experience level is or ability to get it done, but it looks like I will be going on year four without having bagged one. I spent probably close to what a guide costs every year, and I live here and get to hunt 20+ Days a season…
Would also suggest at least doing 3 to 4 weeks. It may take up to one week alone to enter ketosis. I didn’t really feel like I “stabilized” through all the transitions in my body until week 3.
My new area has winds that make planning a hunt virtually impossible. When they should be going down they are up and vice Versa. When they seem to be doing what they should be they suddenly change and swish up and down, or back and forth. Sometimes for only a few seconds sometimes for a couple...
I was up on the side of one narrow draw and he was on the other side. I couldn’t get him to come down to the bottom so I could shoot down. And if I tried to go to the bottom he would have surely seen me, if that’s not what happened
If you get good at spearing there, you'll be good anywhere. Those islands are rough unless you're a pretty good diver. Every time I spear there I miss my dumb Californian fish. I remember having to dive past 80' just to shoot the one tiny fish I got in Maui.
Lost more than one friend to SWB...
Someone else mentioned doing that and I’ve been considering it. But in all three of those situations I can’t imagine how it would’ve helped me?
I’ll probably get one regardless because I have a spending problem and would rather have it than not. Just wondering how to work it in these...
Ha ha ha ha. Now that I see where the elk are in the dark timber that thermal scope is useless. Wouldn’t do me any good if I strapped into my bow.
But I do love this made up image you’ve painted of me. Absolutely hit The nail on the head 100%. That’s me.
Since my last post I changed locations. That was the best advice given and definitely a huge part of my lack of success for 3 years. Turns out Once you’re in the right spot with elk it’s actually fun and engaging.
All of the techniques for locating where elk will be and cutting out 95% of the...
Thanks guys. Chase locations and within 48 hours I was on three different bulls including a 6 point. Screwed it all up, but at least I’m really elk hunting now 😂
Haha. They finally joined the party and legalized them this year. I wasn’t missing out apparently. They suck hard.
I called them when I moved here and asked why they weren’t allowed. They said they wanted to keep archery primitive. I laughed and said how is a compound bow with cams and carbon...
