The more I look around for a similar boot need to handle eastern Mountains and my trecks out west the more i like the crispi Nevada legend with gaiters.
Right now I've got uninsulated lowas and 800gr meindles and think I want something to splits the middle of both stiffness and insulation...
Haha I always found it funny when 2XL+ guys go complaining about how tight stuff is when buying from camo companies aimed at delivering athletic sized technical camo. Wasn't that the whole premise of lots of these brands.
It wasn't until later that they realized they could sell $600 jackets to...

They are USA made if that helps anyone overcome the price tag, I just quick looked what Sitka wants for some of their gloves and see their stratus glove is $90 at Cabela's and 50 for merino liners that last what 2 weeks before they get holes in them with any serious use...
Yeah I know, I got mine at an outdoor show same company but for $45 about 5 years ago. At that price I consider them 1000% return on investment but I can say when I went to get a back up pair and saw full retail I did not pull the trigger.
They are better then any rag wool or merino wool glove...
Hands down the best glove I've ever used and have last incredibly long is a pair of bison wool half finger gloves. It's like merino on super steroids.
It's durable, holds up to moisture great, super warm and wind resistant compared to other wool gloves I've had. Not cheap but took a flyer on...
I've hunted some in Tompkins County that's the closest I've been to out your way hunting and I've done a bunch in Greene in the Catskills south of albany. The guys I know in Tompkins had a really good year this year.

It sounds like both deer werent mortally wounded and you tracked them up good. Yes it's a good rule of thumb that newer hunters should never shoot at moving or running animals, I don't shoot any anything on the move unless it was previously wounded it's not worth the risk factor.
If it was a...
Use mine as a treestand hauler for hang and hunts in the east all the time it's been perfect for that. And have used it once for a quartered out whitetail.
It's a fantastic day pack plus.

At some point you kind of aquire one of each and learn when you want it, I have a down vest thats mountain hardware and a solid color I think 600 or 650 fill, a thin primaloft jacket from kryptek that camo, and the kuiu synthetic that's thicker quieter and has a hood. They all have their place...
I just got the hooded version when they were in the outlet and it's going to be perfect for what I want in the east and I bet I would have used it every day when I was in Idaho last October.

I don't own one but I know my buddy wore his pretty much every day this season from bear, deer, and western elk he said it worked great for hiking with a pack in chilly weather and added just a little more that straight wool when worn under a outer shell with the insulation.
I'll buy one if...
I was hoping for a price reduction if they are making all the savings of going direct at least pass through some savings to the consumer. I did go head and buy some zip off base layers on kuius winter sales this week.
They are cumbersome and there's no good way to carry them. They work pretty good but I would never want to carry one over a mile into thick cover.
The mad Max blind is small but I have used it with added brush to bow hunt and would be something I'd rather carry if going in far.

get in the best shape you can and go and hunt to the level you are able.. You don't have to be Cam Hanes to hunt out west and be successful but being in shape will certainly help
