    Glad to be here

Appreciated it. Will be doing one of each this year. My very first DIY was in Idaho (28 years ago I think) and after 9 days of very tough hunting I still had not seen my first elk in the wild. On the 10th day, we left camp about 3 AM on foot and my friend who was more of a body builder than...

    Sitka Mountain Optics Harness

Well good. I just looks like it sticks out quite a ways in that top photo on page one, and appears to cover a large part of the chest. But, photos and angles can always be deceptive, thus the question.

    Glad to be here

Thanks. I think I have to be on the forum for a few more days before I can PM, and then I will have to figure out how to send one - ha. I have a farm in Ohio, so I am there a lot.

    Sitka Mountain Optics Harness

Has anyone tried to shoot a bow with that think on? Those wings seem to be equal opportunity - good thing for your string to catch on at the worst possible time whether you are right handed or left handed.

    Swarovski 25x50 eyepiece or 20x60

Shout out to Doug at Camera Land!!! Called him and he and his brother were two of the most helpful individuals with which I have ever dealt. Have a new Swarovski scope and tripod headed my way. Can’t say enough for this Forum pointing me in his direction and for his help. Thanks to all!

How rare are they in 2020?

I think everyone’s responses are pretty much consistent with my approach. You are not chasing a unicorn, they are out there but pretty darn rare!

How rare are they in 2020?

Don’t worry I am not looking for a 370 plus in an OTC unit. When I originally started the thread, I didn‘t even have OTC units in mind. Since we have gotten a little side tracked, let me give you my thoughts on the subject. If we are talking 380 and above bulls, they are out there is...

How rare are they in 2020?

We all will - all chasing the good ones - but it is the sound of the bugle, the feeling of accomplishment from pushing ourselves further than we ever thought we could go in thin mountain air, and the beauty that unfolds before our eyes with each and ever step that draws us back each fall. As I...

    Tripod head recommendations

It is 95 degrees out today and I have been on this forum most of the day. Earlier today, I saw a thread with head I seemed to really like once I looked it up on line. Can’t find it in my search history, so I am just asking you guys. What head do you like and why? I am using a Silk Carbon...

    Diabetes and archery elk hunt

Thanks for the reply. I made the mistake of thinking I had beaten the odds and would not get it. In hind sight I ate worse than a 13 year old, but always felt good and never gained weight so this may be a good wake up call. Everyone has to have some problem and I will take this over a heck...

How rare are they in 2020?

No not at all. I will start this years season in New Mexico and yes I will try to find a really nice bull. I do like to try to get larger bulls, BUT and this is a big BUT - I will end the month in Colorado on a DIY hunt with a couple buddies. In Colorado where we hunt I can’t imagine there...

How rare are they in 2020?

I came up with 380 simply because my largest elk so far are would be in the 370s. As for 280 to 380 jump, you have to keep in mind 25 -30 years ago a kid from the east side of the Country thought a 280 was a MONSTER!!!!!!! Ha ha. I guess I could also refine my post a bit. My question is...

How rare are they in 2020?

First, I believe any elk and all elk are a trophy - especially those taken with a bow which is almost my sole weapon for big game hunting at this point. Second, I am always trying to harvest a 380 inch bull and above, but that does not mean I will not shoot a 260 and still be excited. A...

    Glad to be here

Well this section is yours truly. I have used the Forum as a reference for what seems like forever. I am 53, live in WV and have hunted big game from Alaska to Louisiana to New Foundland and many parts in between. But, there are many more here with even more experience. For 20 years I...

Viper Tricks Are In the Mail!

For what it is worth, I am a slick trick 100 standard guy. I have killed elk with a BUNCH of different heads. They all worked quickly and all were fixed blade heads. In each of my kills it was good shot placement and calling right after the shot. Therefore none have went far. The slick...
