WTS The pay it forward / free gear thread

I have [2] Tikka T3X's. I thought I would try the Mountain Tactical trigger springs but they are WAY to light for my shaky old hands. Will mail both springs free to someone that would use them. Both gone. Mike

    Best 1" scope

Here is a photo of the screw that comes with the Talley low mount [bottom screw] and the longer one I got from them [top screw]. The factory screw length is 5/16", I had them send me 3/8" which is their longest. You will need the one 5/16" for the front screw but the longer 3/8" will fit the...

    Trijicon Credo Red or Green??

I realize my reticles are not all the same but the green looks sharper to me.

    Best 1" scope

Talley lightweight low rings. No issues, I have used them for years on several rifles. I was going to try a rail or different rings but these don't hang over the side of the receiver and look nice and clean. Something I did do, the rings come with screws which gives [4] threads engagement into...

    Trijicon Credo Red or Green??

I have [3] Credo 1-6's in red and [2] Credo 3-9's with green duplexes. I like the green better. Plus they give about 3-4 times the battery life over the red. Currently trying to keep from buying a 3-9 with green mil square.

    Old hunting photos

They were a varied group. A couple self employed mechanics, two policeman, a self employed body shop owner, a power and light lineman, a guy that owned a junk yard, one that owned a small restaurant, and a couple retired autoworkers. Good bunch of working class guys.

    Old hunting photos

The first [2] photos were about 1974, the guy standing next to the bus was my father. He was born in 1918 and died in 1980, the one with the bronco was probably late 60's.

    Old hunting photos

My father was a mechanic with his own shop and could make pretty much anything. They stripped both buses inside, put down a linoleum floor and set two of the bench seats facing each other with a table between them right behind the drivers seat for a dining area, across the aisle they set a...

Spotting scope at or under 1k

I have an Athlon Ares 15-45x65 Gen 1 and like it. But I only use it on the range at 100 yards. The Leupold Gold Ring 12-40x60 has much better eye relief and sharpness but they are twice the price. I would look hard at Pentax, I have a pair of their binoculars that are very nice.

    Choice between two scopes

Something to think about. On my Bergara I have a Seekins rail and rings. They are really nice and solid. My thinking on these two rifles was streamlined looks. Maybe I need to quit worrying about that.

    Choice between two scopes

Thanks, I will take another look at the Sportsmatch rings. I think they just looked a little bulky to me. Maybe they look better in person. Would they be more durable / hold zero better the that then the Leupold or Gamekeeper 2's? Was thinking the Huron line as I didn't really need an...

    Choice between two scopes

Thanks for the reply. In my price range [$500 per scope], those are the two I have narrowed it down to.

    Choice between two scopes

I picked up a stainless Tikka T3X in .223 and ordered another in .308 These will probably the last rifles I buy at my age and am setting them up exactly the same. The .223 has Mountain Tactical bottom metal, recoil lug and action screws and will set the .308 up the same way. Originally I was...

    Old hunting photos

Thought I would share some old hunting photos and story of my father and his buddies. He and a friend took two old school buses and turned them into campers back in the 60's. They were pretty nice inside. Every fall in the mid to late 60's and early to mid 70's they would load up 6 or 7 of...
