My gear list from 2021 is almost exactly what @mtwarden has planned.
When I go back Ill bring some more splurges for the two to four days of being stuck due to weather. A mix of seasonings, some ultra cushy camp shoes... I made a list of stuff while in camp on day 12 and it's all food related...
The best part about turkey hunting is that you get to pretend like you're preparing for a remote backcountry elk hunt and do it all over a few weekends in April and May -- you're chasing a dumb bird around the hills so you might as well be hauling fifteen calls, buying all new clothing in the...
That sheep was hit right in the heart at 355yds and then fell about 100 ft down a mountain, spraying blood all over hell. They live on mountains, you know!
Just echoing what everyone has said here: whichever gun you like best. Sheep aren't like elk or moose, they tend to hit the deck with one well placed shot. Even if you end up getting to add on something like caribou, they're not particularly hardy either. Pick a gun early, shoot it til August...
Strangely, the two boots I wear the most are my Scarpa Zodiac Techs and my Schnee's Timerlines, what are the odds?
My two cents, which you can take or most certainly leave, is that these boots are about as different as two boots can be. The Timberlines do have really high ankle support (which I...
So much great stuff in this thread, just for the guys who don't have acres of free wall space, figured I'd share my Dall euro mount. Wife likes to read, I like to hunt (and I like to read, but if I had to choose...), so we've struck a compromise.
Also, any pad you bring for those cots is going to slide all over hell if it's a typical backpacking/camping bad. I've used one with an X-Therm before and wouldn't recommend it -- I ended up using bungie cord to tie it to the cot but it still was better to just sleep on the ground.
Im an X-Therm guy but I *always* bring a Z-Lite pad with me as well -- they're just so useful. I use mine as a big glassing seat, I stretch on it after big hiking days, I stand on it to get dressed, and, if my X-Therm gets a hole in it and I can't fix it, I've got something decent to sleep on...
And to add to Indian Summer's great reply: It's also worth remembering that it's against the law for a resident to take any form of payment or favor for taking a NR hunting in a wilderness area. Anyone worth risking their hunting privileges to take you isn't someone you want to be hunting with...
Yeah, I don't have a ton of equipment and seems like a great way to keep everything stored in one place.
Did you have to countersink that hardware on the bottom of the inline mount or did you drill down through the metal of the cart as well?
How's that Husky cart working out for you? Was thinking of going this way on a new bench -- any trouble mounting the Inline Fabrications frame to that top?
Just did 13 days in the Brooks with a Feathered Friends Lark UL and had no problems getting in there wet and drying out. It's a damp place that will give you all four seasons of weather but it's not a rain forest and you're not going to be sleeping on terrain where standing water is possible --...
I just wore them for 14 days in the Brooks Range (the Zodiac Techs) on a successful sheep hunt and can attest that they are the real deal. I've always worn lighter/stiffer boots and was loving them the whole time.
