I wouldn't even consider two at once unless you are a really experienced trainer. I also wouldn't get two the same year. Train one well. Then a few years down the road, get another and train it well. Then you can focus on the young dog when they need it most, and you won't have two old dogs...
Damn shame to see the condition of that hide. I went bird hunting with a taxidermist friend this weekend, and he mentioned supply chain wasn't stopping his work, but forcing him to source materials from multiple warehouses, whereas he use to be able to get most from one source. This bumped his...
Something often overlooked is the rescue plan. We frequently say "meet you at camp at dark" or something like that, but seldom mention what happens when someone doesn't come back on time.
We were on a caribou hunt with a total of 6 guys. A couple of us went off on our own. At dinner time...
I grew up in Alaska, where the head and antlers have to come out of the field after all the meat has been salvaged. After moving to Colorado, I assumed that rule was the same (it isn't). When I shot my biggest mulie, I stashed my spent brass deep in the throat of the deer, and left a note asking...
I picked one up a couple of years ago in .308 because I thought it was neat. It's dumb how well it shoots. I tried about 6 quality factory loads in it to get started and it liked them all. The Nosler 150 gr soft points were consistently grouping in under 3/4" and many times under a half inch...
I went on a hunt with a guy I knew. He had the wall tent and cots, and had me pitch in for food that his girlfriend bought at Costco or someplace. Then he started talking about other guys he had met in hunting forums coming up and paying for food, propane for the heater, gas, etc. to the point...
I tried the Bog, the Hog, and the Vyce. The Vyce is what I settled on after attending a couple of long range matches local to me with a tripod stage. The Vyce mounts to a plate like a spotter or anything else. Get a quality one and you won't have any play in the mounting system.
Security for the camp while you are away? I use a cable chain and padlock to keep the generator, gas cans, and cooler from getting stolen. I leave the cooler unlocked so if someone wants to feel like they "won" and stole from me they can have a few beers and some bagels.
Campers are often...
it might not look like much, but this is the first thing I’ve killed and eaten off of my own land. Bought the place in April, and took the old .410 out for an hour. Ended up only getting 2, but using a box of paper hulled ammo with no markings on it other than “7 1/2, seconds” from 50 or so...
In terms of an Alaska hunt, this isn’t on the level of disaster it could be.
Head to the Boatel or any other bar with lots of dirty trucks in the parking lot. Buy some locals beers. You might make a friend and have a whole different type of adventure!
Talking to the pilot might also offer up...
The TB TD22 unscrews and has 9 (if memory serves) baffles inside. I soak mine in a bore solvent and scrub them with a copper brush. Then I just reassemble. Pretty simple.
Came here to mention this. If anyone sees anything that could be considered a clue (tough to differentiate from trash) to his whereabouts, please contact the troopers. Including the photo for folks to see the clothing/gear he may have with him. Missing since Saturday, August 27.
