I’ve ran my slik 624 with Outdoorsmans pan all the way to 95 mm BTX. It’s a little overloaded, but it can handle it. I’ve shot off it before too, but no specialized head, just gripping it with my hand. It’s my main hunting tripod so definitely small enough to pack. I carry it in a Sitka day pack.
Just loaded my bottom 1/4 of our freezer with this years bucks. Love the sight of that! Should have a little bit more yield, but I shot the one buck too far forward and lost the bottom half both shoulders. My bad.
I do not disagree and enjoyed that very much when I had more time. Not quite the...
You’d be really busy here with an operation like that. The guy I mentioned I use this year only advertised a little bit and he took in 51 animals in just a few weeks and he had to cut it off because he couldn’t keep up.
Interesting POLL
To my knowledge, it has never happened. And there’s been more than a few animals I’ve missed and then I went back and checked my rifle and it was fine.
I love all the drop testing going on around here, but it’s not made me paranoid enough to switch scopes yet ( don’t hate me...
I don’t know if I’m answering your question specifically but when UM was helping me develop a load, I ran both a magneto speed and CHRONY. And while I found that the individual shot groups might vary between devices, after about 50 rounds, the average between the two devices was within 1 ft./s...
Big commercial processors I have not tipped because I know it’s not going straight to the butcher. I’m just dealing with a girl at the counter.
But I picked my deer up today from a guy that’s been doing it for me for a couple years, two man operation, him and his son. So I always tip them 10 to...
Hey, all, at the end of each year, we have all the Rokslide writers and contributors pick their favorite piece of gear or two that they reviewed and put it all in one place for easy reference.
Was thinking that some of the best reviews we get on here are by members, but there’s so many to sort...

Some good deals on there. Davis tent just dropped their wall tent price about $300, @Cashman will have that on there and bunch more that came in yesterday
Yes, on all that. I had Kevin Monteith on the podcast and he was talking about Lab age versus antler size. I cannot remember the episode but it came out last spring.
And yes, I ran a service that collected tooth samples for Matsons Lab for almost 20 years. And what I learn from that experience...
You are right, Nikon owns the category for weight savings. Not sure what tripod you’re using, but have you looked at The granite peak by KDC?
They were a former advertiser and I reviewed one and like the ED, they are lightest in their category. We are talking stupid light !
I didn't own the Nikon until 5 years after my first book published, so was using the "ol' Pirate" extendable Swaro' CT 30x fixed scope then (still a killer scope)
Went to ED50 in 2019 for about 4 seasons, and then to the Swaro' ATC 17-40x56 and now the Swaro' STC 17-40x56.
I hear the small...
Hey! this is thread is 4+ years old and I've since retired the NikonED when Swaro' and Kowa upped the game in the compact spotters, so my memory is a little foggy now.
I only had the factory 13-30 for this review so can't comment on the 27 or the 40x. Someone on here later sent me the other...
