FWIW I Ackleyd my Tikka 243 and have had zero issues feeding from an M+ factory mag. My gun is throated to run the 108 eld-m at 2.9 COAL. I think my load is 50.5 grns of H1000 running 3100ish.
I have. In 2 different barreled actions, both Tikkas .223 and 6.5 CM. I'm going to try going back to 45in pounds on the action screws and see if that changes anything. I was not interested in having to bed the action, but that will be next if necessary. I'm not unhappy with the stock at all...
I measured my factory and the MT lug last night. The factory lug I had measured .005 shorter than the MT. Going to shoot with the factory and see if there's any difference for me.
I shot 1 elk with the 153.5 no pics to offer but the elk went 40ish yards and died. I think there are better bullets but wouldn't hesitate to try that one again.
If starting from from scratch, sure the 6CM wins. I wasn't, therefore the 243 AI won. What is it that actually sucks about fire forming? Losing a piece of fire formed brass does suck, aside from that what?
Sorry to hear your experience isn't going great. I guess I've been fortunate, I'm at 50ish grains H1000 with the 108's at 3100 no pressure signs at all, even at 90 degrees. I went fairly cheap on the dies and got the Lee 243 collet die and a Redding type S with the button removed. So far...
I built a 243AI this year to use on elk then drew a sheep tag. It’s not a high dollar tag, but likely a once in a lifetime. I will have zero hesitation to send a 108 eld-m into a ram.
