Got 6 boxes of 50. Unfortunately, we didn't have enough room in the cases for these to work in my .338 Jarrett. We used a couple of them and will count the open boxes before sending and reduce price per bullet for what is missing. All in all, I think I have about 290 total bullets...
The cape was actually perfect. I was told there are around 15 bucks in the unit with collars. They net them in their winter range from helicopters. My guide had a client get one last year and they gave him a packet with all the information on the deer and a replica collar. We slid the collar off...
You able to get into LSU's stadium and climb stairs? That would be my recommendation to go kick your but in the stadium every other day before your flight with a weighted pack and your boots. That'll get you in decent shape.
If you ultimately decide to go with an outfitter, Sangre de Cristo Outfitters has THE guide for that unit. If you are a rifle hunter, I will bet you dollars to donuts that they will get you a ram. I used them in S49 and have no regrets. Great group of people.
I'll be in Region G with an outfitter that I vetted through this message board. I'll have a report for everyone upon my return. I will be hunting opening day with a rifle. My target is something over 180", as I already have one that tapes out right about there and I hunt Rio Arriba County, NM...
Guy Eastman's Hunting High Country Mule Deer
I would recommend getting this book and reading it a couple of times. The area he talks about is where you will be hunting.
I'll be in G too. I pulled with 9 points and going the outfitter route.
If you have exposed turrets, it goes without saying, get a neoprene scope cover so they don't spin on you. Even if you don't have exposed turrets, a little extra padding is a great thing to protect from the elements and little falls that will happen during the hunt.
Got my Dall back in 2013...
I've heard it's very expensive to get them back to the States. Greenland and Argentina are hunts that seem like a great deal until you look at exporting trophies. I have no experience here but have heard a lot of negative things.
Be sure to post this hunt report on here for us. I had an opportunity back in 2018 for a cancellation hunt through some very reputable friends at Sheep Show for $14K. I didn't have the best business year and passed on it. I still regret it.
It's a clean facility and they do good work. If you are in the Gunnison area, Shane Guerrieri of F Bar Processing does great work. He's done a lot of elk for me over the years.
The best advice I can give anyone is to go to shows and meet people. You’ll meet outfitters but meet the people attending. Belly-up to the bar and meet hunters. I met the PH my dad hunted with in Mozambique through friends at DSC. It was one of the best hunts he’s ever been on (done 8 trips to...
Listen to Nick here. My guide/outfitter from my successful Alaska Range Dall hunt back in 2013 cancelled his sheep hunters this year due to low sheep numbers. He's a very honest guy, sometimes too honest. He sure could've used the money after COVID cancelled hunts on him last year. I'd hate for...
We were watching the sheep I killed through a big spotter from a public area. A bunch of people were asking what we were looking at. We were in street clothes and I told them we were looking for an eagle nest and that we were wildlife photographers. We never located that nest.
I always like it...
“Trying to gear up for moose season. Sheep season was pretty thin had to cancel a couple of hunts.
Pretty bad winter kill last year.”
This is a text from a couple of weeks ago from the guy I sheep hunted with back in 2013. He’s been guiding in the Alaska Range for a long time.
3+6 in CO for a resident archery tag in a unit that was "easy to draw." I was successful on a nice ram. I am still enjoying my time hanging out in the 5 year penalty box.
