So, how light can a Kimber Hunter be? A build thread.

Here's the finished (stock) product, thanks again OP for the specs! 17.1 oz total. (Approximately .9oz less than an $1100 MPI with swivel studs and .91" microcell, and about 3/4" longer LOP) -Stock 15oz -Paint .3oz -1 Grocery sack in butt .2oz (might add spray foam if branches slapping the...

    223 vs 22CM

Well, what's surprising is that he said that the 22cm was better in comparison, because I asked him which was better

    223 vs 22CM

Couldn't be a throat erosion thing? I was kind of curious why he said that... he's a great smith if nothing else...

    223 vs 22CM

22CM barrel is in route to tbac for their in house 9/16" direct threads for the narrow kimber profile (going with 18"). The only risk is that I didn't want to wait months for a 7 twist, so hopefully this 8 will stabilize the 70gr or 77gr monos I bought. Big mistake? - for those that mentioned...

So, how light can a Kimber Hunter be? A build thread.

Got the new curved microcell shaped to the stock. 1.1 oz lighter than the factory pad for $39 shipped. Before shaping it was 2.2oz. You wouldn't want to shape one without a bench mounted grinder or something similar. This is only my 2nd one, but it's a delicate operation with the grinder...

    Is 308 good enough

Too lazy to look up numbers, but less drift anyhow. Splitting hairs though, like an elk would know the difference...

6.5 lrx, flatter and less recoil 😋

.223 for bear, mountain goat, deer, elk, and moose.

My kids eating the meat, and meat loss mostly, but I've also been impressed by the performance of barnes ttsx on 7 elk, and nearly as many deer, and then Form got me going towards the LRX, which he said is better. Now if I could only find some in stock in .224! Knock on wood, I haven't lost an...

Yeah, whoever started this thing is responsible for my poverty also, only stepped it up a notch to 22creed as I like to shoot monos...

You've carried a suppressed rifle far and wide

Thanks for the advice! I got the order in to cut and thread it at 18". It will be a lot handier than my 22" with the can off when it's in the pack. I'll rarely take a 500 yards shot, so should work well. Many thanks to everyone!

You've carried a suppressed rifle far and wide

Makes sense, accuracy is definitely paramount I figure.

You've carried a suppressed rifle far and wide

Thanks for that! Copper creek ammo claims 3450 with 24" barrel, so I'm guessing I can get over 3300 with an 18" barrel and some hot reloads? New Leija barrel. That puts me right about 36" drop at 500 yards at my average hunting elevation of 6500ft. Sounds pretty good to me I think

You've carried a suppressed rifle far and wide

Wow, this forum is great, what a response! I've got the 6.5 decided at 18" since I already had it cut, but looks like I'm getting an another barrel on a trade, so I have options. As far as the conditions out west, I'm mostly in open country, but bushwack once in a blue moon. The flat...

You've carried a suppressed rifle far and wide

I've hunted the Rockies for over 30 years, but zero experience with hauling a suppressor around on the end of the rifle. For those that have hunted the west extensively with a suppressed rifle, what is your recommendation for barrel length on 6.5CM and 22 creed rifles for 500 yard max range...

    Fluting a factory barrel

Makes sense, and good point. I would think that a thin 22-24" barrel would be exponentially more likely to be ruined than a thicker 16-18" barrel, due to rigidity, but who knows.

    Fluting a factory barrel

What's some opinions on fluting a 22 creedmoor with Kimbers light profile, but cut down to 17"? Smaller bore and thicker at the muzzle helping with rigidity. I'm looking for weight loss, so I wonder if Karl would get much off of a barrel that short anyhow? I see that Uberlight thread where...

    223 vs 22CM

Thanks again! I'm leaning hard towards the 22 vs the 6, but the availability of factory ammo sure makes the 6cm look better! Decisions decisions.

    223 vs 22CM

Thank you for taking your time to answer this! Just to clarify one thing. If the barrel was to be 16.75" (leaving enough for potential thread damage and rethread), would you go with the 22cm or 6cm, or is the 22cm plenty with the LRX and the short barrel at 500? I'm guessing it goes back to...
