SO Cimarron, as mentioned above, is my swiss army knife tent as well. It does it all, I can stand in it, (i'm 5-11) I can use a carbon fiber center pole or trekking poles, I can drop a nest or liner in it, and it will take a variety of stove sizes. The quality of SO is absolute top notch and...
Seek Outside bar none. I use a Cimarron DCF which is massive for 1 and with a nest weighs about 2lbs. Drop the nest and you are about 1lb or less. Also, made in America. There are cheaper options out there but if you really do research and follow threads on Rokslide you will start to drop...
You could also look into a quilt. There are numerous ones on the market and they usually drop quite a bit of weight since part of the sleeping bag is missing. You will need a good pad as that becomes the bottom layer of the sleeping bag.
I stuff my WM when I load the pack and then at camp obviously once the tent and pad are up and inflated it gets laid out to reloft. I have the Versalite so it compresses small, I think I use a 10L sack.
Just a couple things to further complicate the process. Remember a 2P 99% of the time is 1P with some room for gear. Two loaded out guys for hunting in a 2P likely need to be VERY good friends. Putting your wife, you, and kid in the tent is going to be very tight as well. I have moved to a...
I have 2 Eberlestock's and 1 Exo, yes the Exo is light years ahead of the Eberlestock. I use the Eberlestocks for a day pack, my profile picture is one of my Eberle's. For multi day trips or heavier hauling the Exo gets the nod and performs above and beyond everytime.
I wonder if the Winnerwell ti stove body can be frankensteined into Seek Outside dampers, pipe, and ultra spark arrestor? If so, I may consider going that route.
It did take a while to get my SO DCF setup, but I can tell you it is awesome, their CS was outstanding, and the quality is impeccable. I don't own any Kifaru products, but know they make excellent gear. Personally, I think DCF is some of the greatest shelter material out there. So, good on...
You can see from my profile photo I drop the rifle into a short shotgun scabbard that sits in the side pocket and is attached by a molle system along the side. The top is strapped over the pack to pull it tight against the pack. This setup will not work with scoped rifles, and the one in the...
The website mentions to make sure it is assembled square before the first burn-in. Maybe whomever you heard from didn't have it assembled quite right and it burned in warped. Just a thought.
I am debating between this one and the SO line. I too absolutely love the folding design, but hate to buy from China. Other than the manufacturing location I think this stove is awesome. They also make a hot water heater that sits on top and wraps partially around the stove pipe. Instant hot...
I bought the Exo 6400 specifically for multi-day excursions, but I have used it for a daypack as it will cinch down that small. Love the flexibility of the Exo.
Looked at the same thing when I was deciding on my pack. While I went with the Exo over the Seek, I did go with the full size pockets on the side. I carry water bottles on my hipbelt along with 2 hip belt pouches. Like the full size pockets for poles, jackets, scabbard, etc. Seek makes...
I don't think you can go wrong with the Hille's. They are engineered for the worst. My Seek Outside Cimarron has withstood heavy winds, but have not experienced crazy sustained excess winds.
If money is no object, what the heck jump right into the .338. I would do a Bighorn action, Bartlein Barrel, Masterpiece Arms Chassis, of course TBAC for the can. Optics I am partial to NF as I think the glass is fantastic but there are numerous great optics out there. The 280 AI is a nice...
Get the SO LBO nest. It will fit easily inside the Cim and is plenty of room for 1. That is my setup, forget the full nest. My DCF Cim shelter with carbon fiber center pole, and LBO nest weighs nothing, im guessing no more than 2.5 lbs for all 3 pieces.
For the floor insulation, what about covering on the outside as opposed to inside? Get some sheets of the plastic stuff (like they make yardsigns out of) and attach it to the frame with a strong adhesive. You could even adhesive a 1" think styrofoam to the plastic first then adhere the entire...
They don't go on sale very often, if ever. You can sometimes find a lightly used one on Rokslide. Also, Hermit's Hut has a pretty good deal on them, plus he does an extra 3 ozs of overstuff.
The Army stuff is not known for packability or weight. I would buy a WM bag and use a compression sack. Lighter, warmer, better packability, and a ton of weight savings. Pricey, but if you take care of it, it will take care of you. Army stuff is great for car camping or dropping off at a...
