I'm sitting here with a Jetboil 1L pot right now, deciding if it's a "spare" or not ;). In order to cut this I think I need to find a friend with a cutting setup than my "old hacksaw and no vice".
I signed up for notifications on availability for the Sterno Inferno pot from a few retailers.
I often sleep in all my insulation (synth-puff pants and jacket, extra heavy camp socks or puffy boots, toque, neck gaiter, etc), but then I usually use a 30deg bag as low as 15F, and I'll use a 15deg bag down to single digits F.
No, I don't think sleeping in *just* puff pants and jacket would...
Sterno Inferno pots seem to be gone. None on Ebay, Amazon, Sterno website, or Google Shopping.
Bummer.
If anyone has one they want to get rid of, I'd like to try this system.
I recommend that you look for $500 used binos that retail at $700-800.
In my experience trying new things (equipment for any activity really), before I have enough experience to really know what I want, I try to buy good quality used. I can usually sell it for about the same price I bought it...
I have two GSPs, and I would not recommend anyone get one unless they're committed to getting the dog several miles of off leash running (almost) every single day. Beyond that, GSPs and other high-test hunting dogs really should have a mental job too, not just running.
If you want to get a...
I have not had this issue with AK Air, but my flights are usually starting and ending at ANC, so it makes sense that it would be easier for me.
When I've had similar issues booking other airlines with credit card points or airline miles I have used Google Flight search first - found an itinerary...
Do you subscribe to a hunting periodical that you think has really beautiful photography?
Could be digital or print, but it's professionally done, and not run by a specific brand.
I subscribe to a few quarterly magazines dedicated to other passions in my life, but I don't know of something...
This hunt was the first week of October.
My wife and I hunted DIY. We were on her draw goat tag, didn't get a goat, so I filled one of my OTC deer tags.
We were in goat terrain, so it was very physical. Steeper than previous goat hunts I've done in the Chugach.
Pack out for that deer was...
I hadn't seen the Hunt Redi thing before, looks intriguing.
I tried a friend's Bird'n'Lite vest, it was too minimalist for my needs. Actually for that hunter's needs too, it can only hold 9 ptarmigan before they start falling out. And, the blood soaks through and stains pants every time.
So...
Our season starts Aug 10th, and August was really wet here, not good upland hunting but we put on a lot of miles anyway.
Humans did 15 miles this day, dogs' GPSs logged 40 miles.
They hunted hard until the very last yard.
When it dried out a bit, the hunting got a bit better. Some...
I found this old thread when searching for "luxury" items after I saw @sargent 's pack list and realized that he is making some choices that I can't fathom....for now, maybe I need to change my mindset more, decide that some of the things I carry are trimmable "luxuries".
Example: sleeping on a...
I put on my belay jacket and my puffy pants, and waited over 2 hrs for them to stand back up.
Only a 75yd shot, but as a new shooter I was very happy with this.

I shot a blacktail a few weeks ago while it was bedded. I lost a bunch of meat in one quarter and had to take a follow...
