    2022 Bird Season(s) Pics

    Thanks, I really appreciate that! Most of the recent shots are with a Canon R5 and a 24-105 f/4 L lens. But, some are with an iPhone. Shots in the 2021 thread were with a Sony A6600 with a 24-105 f/4 G lens, and with an iPhone. I think one big difference might be that I use Lightroom to...

    How much hunting does your wife let you get by with?

    My wife hunts and fishes a LOT more days than I do. I ask permission to not go hunting. April and May are the only 2 months of the year that we don't hunt and/or fish at least a handful of days. I'm guessing I hunt/fish ~70 days/year, and she's well over 90. I try to get permission to go...

    2022 Bird Season(s) Pics

    Put some UP in our upland hunting this weekend. Didn't bring home any birds, but it was very pretty up there. There are 4 moose in this image. A ~30" bull, a cow, and a cow with a calf;

    What’s in your upland vest?

    In terms of hassle:usefulness ratio, hemostats for quills rank very high 👍🏻. I’ve used my hemostats a few times on my dogs, once on a buddy’s dog, and once on a random hiker’s dog.

    .223 bolt action as a plinker/trainer

    I did exactly this based upon the recommendation of this forum, bought a matching Tikka Superlight in .223. It's a very pricey way to just get practice, but it cured my flinch with my .30-06 and now I feel very confident shooting at big critters in the field. I already had a 10/22, but it was...

    Zamberlans Tearing Up Heels

    I bought the Thor (same size) which is not a similar boot at all. I still need a replacement 10”+ tall 4-flex boot for ptarmigan hunting. I’ll try an Idaho GTX at the start of next year’s ptarmigan season. But the Crispi Thor is a great backpack-mountain-big-game boot. Replacing my...

    Zamberlans Tearing Up Heels

    I had a similar thing happen with my Zamberlan Wasatch GTX boots just last year. Had a pair that worked for 2 years. Left them too close to a wood stove, shrank the leather, had to replace them. Replacement pair didn’t work from day 1. Tore my heels up just like you. I tried working with...

    Binocular Harness Head to Head

    @Zach Herold how's this test going? I just spent a week in the Chugach. My Mystery Ranch soaked through by rain, sweat, or wet bushwhacking most days, per usual. My buddy kept soaking right through his new Badlands harness with sweat everyday. He'd pull his binos out and find them slick with...

    Operation: Lighter Mountain Hunt Kit

    Used the Outdoor Edge saw again on recent caribou hunt. It has officially gotten dull, after just a few uses on bone in the last 2 seasons. I'm guessing the fur caught in the blade while cutting a skull really did a job on it. As I suspected it is not a "high quality" saw, but at 2.5oz it's...

    Lightest dry bag?

    You want dyneema, not nylon (such as Sea to Summit, etc). I don't know who would make a 80-100L dyneema dry bag though, that's really big. Hilltop Dry Bags might make something that big if you ask? Ultralitesacks makes dyneema dry bags, but nothing that big. They're boutique-y though, so...
