"Past performance is not indicative of future results"
If you have money "saved" you have to decide where to save it based on your life not some formula. Does it all go under your pillow or all in a bank savings account or in the stock market or all in crypto or pork belly...
Everyone's life and money story is different. Hard to compare age, job security, account balance, pensions, social security, health, debt (hopefully none) and standard of living expenses.
How much time do you want to spend tweaking this or that?
There are a lot of right answers and even more...

I don't know how far you live from Prague,OK but Davenports would be a great place to take your son to try some bows both new and used. When I bought my first compound at 64yo he set up 5 or 6 bows for me and handed me some arrows and had me shoot as much as I wanted.
The compound comments are muddying the info presented in the video which is a traditional bow at a common traditional draw weight at traditional hunting distances. It's a good video.
Whatever you get be sure to practice on a tree at home or close to home with a friend around. Up and down a tree a dozen times would be a good place to start. Plus haul up your bow and take a few shots each time.

I've had a single steroid shot...
cnelk's opinion is not helpful. He's an elk ninja. He could kill elk in a Jerry Garcia tie-dye.
I'm liking Rogers Sporting Goods house camo clothing. I shot my archery cow last season in pants and shirt that cost less than Sitka gloves.
I wear the Comfort Fit Hiker and love them. I went down a half size but probably could have gone down a full size but I have those feet where my second toe is longer than my big toe. Also my left foot is half size larger than my right so I'm always doing a lot of size juggling. I downloaded...
In 2010 I went from Xterra to 4Runner Trail (it's called something different now). I still own the 4Runner and it's amazing how many offers I've had for it. College kids at a gas station and of course anyone at a dealer.
The Xterra was not terrible at anything but not great at anything. It's...

Don't tell my wife that Stu Millers chart would have avoided the hundreds of arrows of varying spine, length and insert weight I've got in Home Depot buckets in my man cave. And that's just the carbons and some aluminum. My collection of wood shafts resembles cord wood.
