For what's worth, stepped on a 120 Hammer Hunter in 7mm-08 this fall and it did incredible damage to the lungs and broke ribs coming and going of a blacktail buck at 160. Worked as advertised for sure.
They would be! I shoot the 120s in a 7mm-08 and 168s in my 280. I bet the 145 LRX would be good in the 280 if you're after more speed. Even the 139s would be good if you really want to step on it.
Great buck sir! I hunted my X tag hard for 11 days, 4-5 of it solo. I didn't see a buck like that during the season. My buddies tagged out 2nd and 3rd day. Took me 11 points to draw that tag. I saw the rain, sleet and snow. Spectacular country and I was seeing deer, so good time, but would...
I set my nephew (13) up with a 7-08 with 120 Hammer Hunters this fall. Worked beautifully on the bench and in the field. I'd guess a 108 ELD would be even milder, but I'm not sure it's enough to worry about.
I read your post as 6CM which is why I clicked it, but then say the comments on the 6.5. I'm thinking about these two as well, but leaning more 6CM or 6.5CM as I have neither, but want something light recoiling for new hunters/shooters.
I didn't realize the Barrett was a clone of the NULA. Any thoughts on the Wilson NULA?
What were Barrett's improvements? I've never handled either, but I've been a Melvin fan for a long time.
And yeah, 7mm-08 is really hard to beat.
Nice buck! Blacktail are some the hardest trophies to come by, IMHO. I typically hunt them in the archery season, but was able to take my nephew out over the weekend and he connected with a 4x4. Was a great hunt, rain and all!
I just worked through this with my nephew, who is 13 and going on his first big game hunt this fall. I have a lot of cartridges to choose from and I initially though the 6.5 Grendel would be the jam, but it is a big and heavy 20" barrel and he didn't care for it. He loved my 7mm-08 and I...
I have one of these. I used it Friday to get a quick solution on a 400 yard steel target (7.5 minute), boom, ping, boom, ping. I've used it out 1,000 with same results. Great unit.
