I wish the Cross came with a magnum bolt face for shortmags. Hope the flexibility plans for the platform don’t go the way of the MPX.

I'd Rather Be Lucky Than Good - Elk Hunting Film with Ryan Avery

This video was awesome! I learned so much...river crossing ballet, chiropractic field techniques, knot tying like a mountain pirate, the purpose for the infamous spare underwear and the use of a good bullet caddie to hand you cartridges one at a time like a Rockefeller. Ryan Exotic is a true...

SO Cimarron -standard, light, or ultralight?

Not sure where you are in MN but I have a standard 2 door Cimarron in Madison WI if you want to check one out in person. I love it, worked great in Alaska (15* nights) in the fall. Pre-Covid we still went back to MN several times a year for friends, state fair dentist, etc. Happy to bring it...

    9MM ammo for bears defense?

There seems to be very little comparison between 9mm harcast and 10mm hardcast but this link from another forum test the 9mm 147 hardcast in gen and in 20ga steel then gel. I appologize if it violates the rules to share another forum...

What water filtration system are you using? Are you happy with it?

If you are plannign to be below freezing then you need to keep most filters warm. I keep my HyroBlue Versa in a small plastic bag inside my shirt against my body during the day (not in a pocket) and it wroks very well to keep it from freezing and getting damaged. I have just started using a...

    Cimmaron headroom

Here are a couple picture (not mine) that I have collected in my research before deciding upon my Cimarron that show pitches off the ground.

    Cimmaron headroom

It is absolutely amazing how much extra room it feels like when it is a just a few inches off the ground but there are a lot of other benefits to setting up your floorless shelter with "flex pitch" capability. In colder weather I set mine up tight to the ground as I would rather have frost...

    Cimmaron headroom

I too sleep along the guyout side of the Cimarron. I use either trekking poles or sticks to pull UP on the guyouts. This gives me a lot of extra headroom as well as tightens up the whole structure of the tipi. I am 6’1” for reference and the sides very spacious. A taller person would want to...

Efficacy of Handguns for Bear Defense

In the TFB video I posted the shoot the Extreme Penetrator and the Underwood Hardcast though ballistic gel only so penetration is easily compared without obstruction. I found it helpful. In the Paul Harrel video I like his use of "meat targets" where he attempts to simulate a body cavity without...

Efficacy of Handguns for Bear Defense

I have been researching the same setup. You might want to reconsider the “extreme” penetrators. The Underwood Hardcast flat nose penetrate far better. The extreme penetrators don’t penetrate much more than other standard ammo and ball ammo can penetrate further. There are several videos on...

    Sleeping pad mods for warmth

I use an emergency blanket under my air pad an it makes a significant different in temp because the air in the pad will cool into a heat sink form your body. this is why foam is better. Airpads need to be heated just like extraq space in a sleeping bag. I wrap the emergency blanket (reflective...

    Cheap Stuff that Works

I really like Justin's UL water bottle holders. More of a Thru-hiker gear but easily carry 2 1 litter Smart water bottle that weigh 1.3 ounces. Handier to get to a water bottle on the shoulder strap than on the waist belt behind the belt pouches. Works great with the HydroBlu Versa filter adn...

How do you travel on airlines with your large backpack?

Best thing...If you can, upgraded your flight for priority boarding. This is a free upgrade when booking with AMEX and allows you first access to overhead storage. I pack my Kifaru nomad2 26" frame with vitals/delicates like optics or titanium stove. My Guide Lid is quick detached as counts as...

How do you travel on airlines with your large backpack?

I would HIGHLY recommend wearing your hunting boots on the plane. All other gear, worst case scenerio, can be replaced or sourced from walmart, guides, or buddies on the the other end of a flight but you don't want to go in with new boots that aren't broken in yet.
