Looks like some preditor hunting is in order, sorry about the buck. I would rather see another hunter harvest him, there is a reason settlers eliminated wolves, stinks that some states think reintroduction is a good idea.
I will second Swarovski has great service, bought an older steel 1.5-6x42 habicht scope, it had lose part in it from a turret being adjusted to far, they repaired and cleaned it no charge, the scope is about 30yrs old and is one of the best low light scopes I have.
Great deer you guys got, I would love to hunt down there but can't afford the cost, to close to retirement, really enjoyed the pics. You guys were blessed for sure.
I had a beautiful 1981 mod 70 FW XTR 3006 sold it to a fellow RS, sold it for a less than it is worth, almost perfect cond. and it was a shooter consistant 3/4" groups. I didn't need two 3006 kept a SS in 3006 that I don't mind scatching up, more utilitarian I guess. That rifle had the slickest...
Beautiful rifle and great find, there is something special about older guns, seems they are much better finished and being used probably has character marks from previous hunts congrats.
My wife is going to ask "Why do you need two more headlamps, uh just in case," Well with five headlamps I shouldn't have a lighting problem on my first elk hunt this fall.
As for accuracy problems in your Tikka, I bought a used Browning A-bolt SS shot OK if 1.5"-2" groups are ok. I started cleaning it, powder fouling was not bad but it had a lot of copper build up, so much that I got my foul out bore cleaner filled the barrel set the cleaning rod in and turned it...
I feel your pain, I am going on my first elk hunt this year, cost of gear and the trip is expensive to say the least, sold some gear recently to keep the CEO happy, don't tell her, lol.
Good luck, I hope you fill your tag. As for carrying a 9mm I have one with somewhat hot 147gr handloads for black bear if I was going into Grizzly country I would invest in a full size 10mm with 5" barrel, Buffalo bore has some stout hard cast loads, alot more energy delivered and penetration.
Nice rig, I have a meostar 2.5-15x56 which does very well also, definately could shoot well after legal light. What is nice on those dark cloudy days you can still see and hunt right up the last second of legal light.
I have had, compared astronomy equipement -eyepieces for years, and yes good optical coatings make a big difference in light transmission. The coating allow light to pass through instead of reflected- scattered. I have looked through scopes of the same diameter and same mag. one you see good...
I definately am a boomer, lol, I was raised around guns, mostly long guns for hunting, I can't remember my dad ever having a pistol. But even then my dad kept the guns in a soft gun case unloaded and the shells in a separate location, no gun safes then. Yes unfortunately there were accidents...
Yes it is always better to error on the side of safety one could unlock their gun when you are home, also keeping it from little children's reach plus in the case of an auto loading pistol or pump, auto shotgun don't keep it with a round in the chamber little ones cannot work the action. But all...
