I've been there 3 times. That is much much bigger than anything I've seen in camp, or at the butcher. If I go again, I'd do a remote camp. No base lodge to compete with the locals.
They busted me tonight up in my stand. I was looking the opposite direction, when I hear snorting from behind me. Definitely not the wind. I had the wind in my favor. they know the stand is there, and must have saw me moving around, or saw the back of my head. 3 doe in the field...
I wonder if you wore glasses, would it affect a deer from locking onto your eyes. I know for sure, my doe was locked onto my face. Whites of my eyes probably.
I used that TTSX copper stuff. Bull took 4 loads to the lungs before dropping. Never seen any animal stay standing with 8 holes. Still trying to find a lead load that is as accurate as TTSX.
I'm in my platform stand, camo box, with little windows, 6' off the ground. mama doe comes in @ 40 yards. (I'm saving my tag for a buck)
This doe literally looks at me for 1/2 hour. She stood her ground, and just stared at my blind. She took a break, ate some blades of grass. Back...
I have big bay windows in my house. The deer can certainly see in my windows, and they know when I'm watching them. They watch me too. They stomp their feet, snort, bob their heads. All kinds of things to scare me off.
Very fascinating creatures. They certainly learn danger...
The deer still cross my property, but now on a different trail. They literally jump a fence and take the harder route now. They certainly stay away from the kill spot.
We'll see on Oct 1st when the season opens up again.
I took a doe from an elevated blind at 20 yards. Group of 8 doe that crossed this path every evening like clockwork.
I had my camera on this path for years.
Since I took this doe, not 1 doe has crossed the path since. It's been 8 days.
Is that possible they are that smart, and changed their...
WoW. My family prefers Elk. and yes, Oryx is definitely easier to overcook.
My wife overcooked Elk burgers tonight, and I had to drown it in olive oil to make it edible. The Oryx grind is great too. Cuts of Oryx on the grill is definitely not like Elk.
I have Elk & Oryx in my freezer. Although Oryx is good, Elk is more like beef, and has more of a beef texture.
Both have excellent reputations for 1st class meat.
What do you gravitate towards ?
How do the Nosler BT 120 do on Elk? My Tikka .308 loves them. The box loads. Wouldn't even have to hand load.
100 yards off a bench, and 3 touching holes. I just never tried the BT's on game before.
