Geez, I dont know why even arguing this. The vast majority of centerfire ammo from the big companies in calibers other than 223 and possibly 308 is hunting ammo. Just look at
shelves at the stores. Handgun is not relevant to current conversation. It is not hard to see what there is a lot...
The folks shooting up 75% of ammo on targets is vastly shooting shooting 9mm and 223. This is why when we go through “bad periods” that is all you can find. Then gradually 308 comes. After a while you see the most popular hunting rounds like 6.5cm, 30-06, 270 etc. and yes I am including...
I don’t disagree but you are looking through narrow view. The point of discussion is something ok to buy since it will be available. The 6.5cm had lot of niche support but did not explode and become “common” until your “fudds” got a hold of it. The prcs and 6.8W for now riding on coat-tails...
I agree with this. Though I will say hunters are a far bigger market than prs / fclass ‘shooters’ that like the 6.5/7mm. This is why the old 270 has done well for so long and until the 6.5 cm came along no 7mm or 6.5 was as popular. Winchester markets the 6.8W on a lot of the “deer hunting”...
What is left out here is that Win/Browning do not need industry support. The brand have their own rifle lines so they do not need to coordinate anything to get support. All of this custom stuff is drop in the bucket compared to what the majors sell.
What Hornady does do is they use cheap to...
Cabelas/bpro around me (Dallas) had 165 ablr and 175 tgk last year. The 175 tgk sold out in hunting season and not seen back but the 165 ablr has been getting stocked regularly. They had the 170 browning silver load for a while as well but that was bought up too and not seem more. Must be...
Im not disagreeing totally with your statement but 6.8W ammo is always available. There is no shortage of it. Go look on ammoseek However there can be dry spells of the 165 ablr load or 175 tgk load at times. I suspect this is because they source bullets from Sierra and Nosler and those guys...
Lol. And somehow alll the prcs are not solutions to problems that didn’t exist. Companies make money by introducing new things and convincing people to buy them. Plenty of good long range hunting 277 bullets. The main downside to 6.8W is lack of brass as Winchester selling all the ammo...
Yeah - anytime the 165 ablr load, 175 tgk load, or 170 btip load shows up on midway they sell out immediately. Not as many folks interested in the 162 mono load though it is a fine load with good bc for a mono especially out of short action. The 165 ablr are in stock cabelas if anybody looking...
I am running 58 gr rl26 with 175 tgk in one of my 6.8W. Averages 2830 fps. 59 gr was 2900 fps. I went with lighter load as it matches velocity of factory ammo and had a cds dial cut.
Lou
Have an xbolt SR in 6.8W. Shoots the 175
Tgk factory load about .6 and 165 ablr about moa. Very sweet rifle. Run a trash panda on it. Find myself taking it more and more when head to ranch

Love the 270 wsm. Had an 8 twist put on kimber Montana before 6.8W came out. Shot
Matrix 165, berger 170, and now 170 nosler btip. Super accurate and hammers game. My son took it over and I now use 6.8W which is same but has factory loads with newer bullet offerings. Even before the high...
Ramshot Grand is new powder coming out in 2024. It looks similar to magnum in burn rate but us temp stable and has decoppering agent. Loads in new 2024 hodgdon annual. High velocity in 6.8W loads they have listed
Lou
6.8W ADG brass is coming in 2024! I saw a dealer email somebody posted on LRH hunting that said prototype Q1 and production Q3. Several folks visited their booth at SHOT show and they confirmed. So that is super news for us 6.8W shooters
Lou
Add Nosler to the list of companies to email. I just listened to a shot show blog and Nosler introduced 7prc ammo/brass this year. They said they are considering 300 prc and 6.8 Western next. So let them know we are wanting some 6.8W!
Lou
Yep. It all plays together velocity, energy, bullet construction. Saying one is more or less important is incorrect. In the case you describe, the “stretching” is caused by energy transfer. The max diameter will be close where max force is applied in your curve.
Lou
The work done destroying tissue by sharp edges and fragments does the killing. The rate of energy transfer from the bullet is what provided this energy to do this work. If the rate of energy transfer is slower this infers the bullet did not fragment or maybe expand at all
