I get both points of view. I try to only shoot mature bulls too- and usually do, but I’m only hunting one state- and if I don’t have one by the end of the season, you bet your ass I’ll be trying to find anything that’s legal, because I like eating elk all winter regardless. A lot of these guys...
I agree 100% with BassPro ruining Cabelas and now Sportsmans, but what has MeatEater F'd up? They seem to take a backseat approach to owning these companies, service and quality sure has not seemed to change with FirstLite- I am by no means a huge promoter of Meateater, but am pretty impartial-...
Our house’s pipes froze the first night we lived in it. Part of living in the cold IMO. I fixed everything myself, and learned to run heat tape, and work on keeping the house temperature up
Good point- but did he get involved with it as a citizen, or actively representing BHA? Not saying I agree with him- but I don’t think he was going in there actively trying to represent BHA. I think it’s okay to have someone in your organization who you may not agree with on every aspect of life.
I just don’t understand why people
Have such a hard time understanding that BHA is focused on public land and wilderness values- that’s what their mission is, I support them for that reason. I support RMEF because they are pro conversation and habitat- that is their focus. Support the NRA for...
All of the above- lots of general units, a rifle season that goes through the entire rut, and the majority of people shoot young bucks. I honestly don’t want to see the long season go away, I prefer having as much time as we do to hunt, and hunt every year. I would like to see a point...
Honestly in most of Montana, expect to shoot 120” or smaller deer. 130” and up will be the better end of what you realistically will find. There are certainly exceptions, but finding an honest mature buck will take more luck than anything in this state. Expect to see a lot of deer, not a lot...
Shipping is crazy, I sold a box of 22-250 to a guy on here who had reached out when he saw I was selling my rifle. I just wanted what I paid for it, which was $21 or something, I figured $30 TYD was fair thinking shipping wouldn’t be bad for a small box of ammo weighing less than a pound. I...
I certainly don't think I am next level, but I am fortunate to be more successful than deserved. I think drive is the biggest thing that leads to success.
I am a multi-species hunter- mostly elk and mule deer. I am fortunate to have a wife who is very understanding of me being gone. I hunt...
This is the reason I love MR. I’ve had the original Metcalf with the Longbow bag as well for quite a while, and have beat the tar out of them between hunting, guiding, and lots of general use strapping chainsaws and such to them trail clearing. Only things I have had break is a couple buckles...
Im at 6 paddles for the year this year. Best luck is finding high ridges with buck brush, aspens, and some conifers. Takes a bit of time to find where the moose are concentrating in those areas.
For sale or trade- Browning BLR 22/250 topped with Leupold VX-2 3-9x40. Great shape, I’ve had it for 5 years, maybe put 60 rounds through it since I’ve had it. Some wear on bluing, from where previous owner had it in scabbard. Shoots sub MOA. I love it, but just don’t do much varmint hunting...
Not sure about CO, but here in Montana, it seems like you need the smallest dry flies or nymphs you can find to hook them. Never have had luck on and spinners or spoons. Very finicky from my limited experience
I spent a couple seasons guiding in the Frank. Amazing country, you really feel like you are absolutely alone more than anywhere else I have spent time, much more so than the Bob. That being said, I would not go back there to hunt elk. I have interest in going in to hunt deer for myself (even...
Actual days hunting this fall was a touch over 60, not to count probably 30ish days scouting in the summer, and a fair bit of time shed hunting in the winter and spring. I have a great wife, who likes her alone time.
