    Canadian wildfires

You are correct that there are many factors. I would say increased timber harvest, or other forest management activities (hand piling, mastication, burning etc) would certainly help. There are more factors to lessened forestry practices than just anti logging though- the timber markets are...

    Canadian wildfires

Its a damned if you do, damned if you don't sort of thing. I am pretty heavily involved in fire here in Montana, right now we have a lot of political push to put out fires aggressively, outside of designated wilderness areas. Doesn't seem like we can do anything that keeps people happy. You...

    Canadian wildfires

I’m guessing lower snow pack year, and slower green up because of how far north? Educated guess on my part.

    Montana FWP Mistake Sheep/Moose

This is probably a very accurate explanation of what happened. Montana pays horribly for government jobs- look at DNRC firefighters making $15.50/hr. Then they wonder why they are understaffed and have to bring in private crews on EMACs contracts.

A hypothetical: for a US "Big 3 Deer Slam"

What? I did Sitka DIY for dirt cheap. Tags are OTC, not guide needed, and tons of deer. One of the cheapest out of state DIY hunts you can do. I can’t figure out if your just trying to get a rise, or just to uneducated on this, but doing even a little research seems like it would do you a lot...

    Chainsaw Question

Hard to beat the 372s. I just picked up a 562, very nice saw, but wish I would have grabbed a 572- just wish it had a touch more power when running the longer bars. As others have said, much more saw than needed for just cutting firewood, but you certainly wouldn’t regret buying.

A hypothetical: for a US "Big 3 Deer Slam"

I would say Cousy and Whitetails aren’t bad interchangeable, just like Columbian Blacktails and Sitka Blacktails aren’t interchangeable. Lots of options for western Whitetail- Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming- all easy to get tags. I’d say the easiest place would be Montana to get it done.

    Lighter 30-06 for the mountains?

I think you are on the right track. Like mtwarden, I have a Kimber Hunter for my light rifle, in 7-08. Like I said though, I still shoot better with my Browning, so it ends up being with me 90% of the time.

    Lighter 30-06 for the mountains?

Just take what you have and are comfortable with. I spend a lot of time hunting the backcountry, and I still take my old Browning BBR in 30/06 as I shoot it alot better than my Kimber. Its heavy, but I am way more comfortable with it.

Late season Montana mule deer advice

Have realistic expectations. I have no intention of sounding rude with this - but with my experience with guys from WA/OR, they tend to come out and get incredibly excited about the number of deer, and usually seem to be tickled pink bringing home a truckload of young bucks. Not saying there...

Elk hunting recommendations for a once in a lifetime hunt

Montana Hunting Company, it would probably be too late for this season, but I am sure you could line something up for next year. Some of the ranches they guide one have waiting lists and will be over that price range, but some will be right in there. Chance at a 300" plus bull, and be into a...

    Best Kid Carrier Pack

What does everyone use for a kid carrier pack for hiking etc? When we had our son last year I bought a decent one off of facebook. It is comfortable, and works well, but it has not other storage or straps on it. It would be a stretch to put much more than a few snacks and a jacket in the one...

Hunting Etiquette. 2 tags 1 week of hunting.

Either swap out every other calling scenario, or whomever spots the animal gets first choice whether to make a move on it or not.

    Unit Selection

Depends on the experience you want. Some of those units in the Frank Church for instance are easier to draw, but can be incredibly difficult hunts, on par in some instances with the Unlimited units in Montana. I would say if you want a good ram and don't want to spend a ton of time out, apply...

how quick have you had to take shots

I would say most of my elk have been somewhat rushed, but the only one I feel I wouldn't have had another shot opportunity on would be one I tracked in the snow. I had spotted the bachelor herd bedded at about 50 yards in heavy timber, was trying to crawl around to find a shot angle when the...

    BHA rendezvous !

You can’t have a debate with people of this mindset, it’s just like arguing with the far left. There is no logic, facts, or reason. Only factless opinions, and their argument comes down to “just trust me, your wrong” It really is just a waste of time and energy to try to have a rational...

    BHA rendezvous !

Lol. Again, seemingly Factless opinions, with zero evidence. I appreciate your trying not to be mean, and neither am I when I say I often read these threads, and again, it is factless opinions, everyone says to read the proof, but can’t seem to ever produce any aside from the fact that a...

    BHA rendezvous !

Again, I respectfully disagree. All I ever hear is “trust me, their bad” or “just look at the proof” but no one ever shows any proof. All I’m asking for is some concrete examples. I’m not drinking any koolaid, I don’t go to brew house meetups, and I don’t take their voting advice, I make my...
