I wouldn’t waste money with water bars. You can slope it for the easiest fix, imo, the best long term fix would be to crown it, do a little ditching and install some culverts where needed.
I guided for them a couple of years, Travis is a great guy, it sounds like his boys have grown up and work in the business now too. Fun country to hunt, not always the best trophy potential, but a good outfitter to go with.
It’s a time game in my opinion. I have a few buddies that have it dialed, but they spend an incredible amount of time on it. I personally have spent hundreds of days guiding and hunting in Idaho and Montana, and have only been on two wolf kills. There was a third opportunity, but was clearing...
I would look at farther north, for a more enjoyable experience. Might not be what you quite picture for Midwest whitetail, but I think it would be a lot more fun.
I lived over there for a few years after growing up out west, the southern WI/MN thing didn’t do it for me. I loved being up north...
I know of some B&C bucks here in MT that have not been entered. I know some good big buck hunters, and bull hunters who would never enter an animal. I personally never would enter anything in either, I don’t want my damn name in a record book. Seems like what once was a good research tool has...
Can't help with living, but if he needs a job to get by, I could get him one up here in Helena, at least until the snow flies. Shoot me a PM if you would like.
I’ve had my Mystery Ranch, that I still use for day hunts, hiking, and guiding since 2012. I bet I have 800+ days using it with all the guiding time. I still use it often. I have a Seek Outside I use now for all my backpacking, and backpack hunting. I would guess I have 100ish days using it...
I've had pretty good luck, aside from gaiters. I like their gaiters, but they don't seem to hold up well for me, that being said, they have had great customer service in replacing them no questions asked. Their merino doesn't have a ton of life to it, but I haven't had any merino from any...
Easy to do. Easiest way I have found is to have a piece of paracord that you cut to the length you need the pole, to be able to measure as you cut in the field. One plus is the ability to keep some short branches on it for hanging gear, just need to be careful not to rip the tipi with the...
These are all designated trails by the FS. Many of these trails are cleared by trail crews every year, though in wilderness areas it must be done by hand tools (no chainsaw). Because of how much work this is, and lack of funding, more and more wilderness trails are not cleared every year...
I use my Seek Outside for all my backpacking and backpack style hunts. Their packs are great, lightweight, and handle loads well. I will say they are fairly "simple." My pack only has the one main compartment, plus I added a lid and a pocket on the belt. They also seem to be a little more...
