I used to guide up Big Creek as well. FLY IN. If you aren't in shape, you will not be successful in there. Quality is not great, all my time in there, the biggest buck I saw was 170". There are some areas that were just to hard to access to take clients into that I would love to hunt, but I...
I have seen alot of dumb, young, mule deer. But to be fair, I have seen alot if dumb, young whitetails, blacktails, elk, bears, antelope, coyotes, etc.
You see a heck of alot more young mulies killed than mature, just like you see alot more people calling in and killing young raghorn bulls...
Thanks for all the advice guys! The two skulls that need it the most were both done by taxidermists, one was done with Beatles, and one was boiled. I will try some of these tips and post the results!

Hey guys,
I have several European mounts that are starting to yellow a little bit.
Anyone have any experience Re-Whitening skulls? Any help would be great!

I am a guide. No need to go to a guide school, in fact, we generally look down on people who did it. Just start calling Outfitters now, and try to get a job, have them teach you their way of doing things, as everyone does it different. I always here guys from the schools saying "well this is...
I had one I carried with me while guiding in the Bob Marshall. It was a handy little gun, the Marlin '85g. I only had it for grizzly protection, and since getting my new revolver I never carry it. I ended up selling it a couple months ago to fund a new gun. If I were to get another I would...
Duratracks are my favorite, but I went with Kelly Safari's this last time - was $40 cheaper per tire, and they are about the same quality I have found. I know alot of loggers and ranchers that swear by Toyo M-55's - and I have used them alot on work trucks, they are great, but expensive. My...
Only a new Vortex scope for my .30/06. Not needed, but I have been wanting an upgrade, and have a .22/250 needs a scope, so I'll move the Leopold to that.
I shoot 180 gr SST's out of my .30/06, and they shoot great - never shot an elk with them, but they have killed a pile of bears, blacktails and mule deer. I love SST's, and have always had pass through shots, and never have noticed them breaking up. That being said I have really been looking...
I tried them out this year, as my Filson's had worn out. For the price they are great, I would prefer Filson pants as far as wool goes, but I couldn't turn down the price of these on sale. The one thing they need (I heard they are coming out with) is a tall. I am 6'2" and they are way too...
Hunting elk in the timber is the only way I like to hunt them during rifle season. Read Robby's book on mule deer, and his section on still hunting more than applies to hunting elk in the timber. Use quiet clothing - I wear packboots and wool only. Always have your rifle ready to access, and...
I carry a .44 and found a holster from a company out of Idaho that hangs a little lower off my belt, and fits fine with my Mystery Ranch. I'll post pics tomorrow, and make.
I was thinking of doing a thread reviewing many of the new items I used this last fall, including my new puffy pants. I ended up going the thrifty route, and bought the LL Bean Primaloft pants (99 dollars if I recall) and absolutely loved them! They seem to be just the right warmth to bulk to...
I have had to do the sit and wait method often with older and out of shape clients while guiding, and it really is a game of odds. When you get to know the country well, you learn those kind of spots. When I have clients with me, the most effective way to hunt often is set them up on good...
