This is exactly what you want to do. When you open your eyes, you should have a completely full scope without moving your head. If your buddy didn't loktite the screws and you don't have a full scope without moving your head, you can fix it easily in a couple minutes. Just loosen your rings a...
I grew up in Rutland, but am going to school in Middlebury right now. I've sat in on one of Hal's seminars, and have hung out at various events with the Benoits a bit over the years. I was a bit young to be too concerned with tracking big bucks on public land then, but if I bump into them...
Hi, folks. I grew up hunting in Vermont from treestands. Recently I've been tracking on snow when I have the time to hunt and the conditions to do so. I've come up on a doe at 60-70 yards without her knowing I was there, so I think I'm doing some things right. Now I just need the time to...
Hi, folks. I'm working on developing a proposal for an independent geography study here at Middlebury. I would like to develop a GIS model that attempts to locate the most appropriate hunting areas for an individual depending on what weight they give each variable in the model. I haven't...
I am by no means an expert on stoves. With that being said, I think if anything, it may work too well and make your shelter uncomfortably hot if you make too big a fire. Aron Snyder has said that it gets hot quick in the Super and Mega tarps with stoves. The tarp you mentioned is a bit smaller...
If you look under the "Make Your Own Gear" header, you'll find the material. They don't have any SS stock, but they have titanium for a reasonable price. They are using .005" thick stock, but the link I originally posted says .004" is sufficient.
I never thought of manufacturing the hardware myself. I'm not much of a craftsman when it comes to metals, but it may be worth a shot. Thanks for the idea. And two spark arrestors isn't such a bad idea either. Cheap insurance for sure.
The rivets would only affect the last inch or so of the pipe since only one row of rivets will be needed to hold the pipe up. When rolled, the pipe will have a row of rivets sticking out at the end of the shimstock, but I don't think that should create any problems. Let me know what you think.
I see what you're saying about the pressure on the collar at the bottom. Perhaps a set of 4 rivets facing out at the bottom of the pipe would still allow me to keep the stovepipe in one piece while keeping pressure off the bottom collar. Thanks to everyone for the info thus far!
That looks great, Reaper. Does the stovepipe slide over the top of the damper piece and rest on the rivets that seem to hold the collars up as well? I'm not super familiar with different stove designs, but I like what you've done. I might try to make the cuts for the damper and spark arrestor...
Hi, all. Eventually, I plan on making my own cylinder stove based on what is said at this link: My DIY Cylinder stove - Backpacking Light. I was wondering if anyone else has undertaken a project like this? Any tips for putting holes for a damper in the stovepipe? Any clever ways to put in a...
Welcome to Rokslide. Always good to see New Englanders on here. If you're interested in a New England Rokslide Rendezvous this spring, check out the rallypoint forum, and look for the thread titled "Vermonters? New Englanders?". Shoot straight
I'm sure I'm familiar with the area you're talking about. Lot's of deer over there, but a few too many people for my liking. I'm going after a buck in the central part of the state this year with a clean track as wide as a lighter. I've yet to lay eyes on this beast, but I've seen rubs and...
