My August 2024 Dall Dream Hunt

Favorite hunt write-up that I've read on this site. Felt like I was right there. Congrats on the success!

Skin on or skin off when field dressing Elk?

Different when you can basically dr4ive the truck up to it. If you are packing those quarters miles out of the backcountry, hide on is also just additional weight that I wouldn't want to carry.

    Which Buck Would You Shoot?

Drop tine buck. The trashy buck needs a few more years and who knows what he could look like.

    Montana Antelope - First Hunt

Welcome to Rokslide. As a heads up, might want to read the forum rules. New guys are not allowed to post unit specific questions and these types of posts are largely frowned upon by the community.

    United health insurance

Obviously, you know what risk level you are willing to accept. If this is where you want to go, look into a stop-loss policy. Deductible may be like 15K for a much lower monthly premium, but will at least mitigate your downside risk were something serious to happen.

    Harp’s Adventure

Awesome. Can't wait for my kids to get a little older and do trips like this.

So the person survived a Grizzly bear attack by killing the bear, but the rest of us should do it differently. Makes sense, right?

The article is comical in a lot of ways, but shows the writer's pure ignorance of firearms and usage when it infers you will only shoot one bullet with a single path. Pretty sure nobody given the chance to pull the trigger more than once at a charging grizz will pause to see if the first one did it.

    Ranch Properties

I saw that this morning as well in the WSJ. Crazy to think about 790 square miles at your disposal.

    Underwear

I wore wolly and the kuiu merino boxer briefs on an alaska hunt last year and thought they were both fine.

    GOHUNT customer service

Have probably 30ish orders from them over the years and the only time I had an issue, their CS made it right immediatiely.

Nevada silver state mule deer tag

Congrats on an awesome buck. Nice to see some like that now and again to remind myself they do actually exist.

    DIY mule deer

Most of the good Nebraska mule deer country will take you points to draw now and population is in a rebuilding phase right now. Plenty of decent rifle hunts in CO that you could draw with 0 pts that I'd take over some of those other states as far as potential for a quality deer.

    SD Black Hills Whitetail

What he said^^^. There will be plenty of people but the unit is huge and you can hunt most of it. Roads all over as well so it is pretty accessible.

    BACON

Per the USDA, dry cured cooked bacon can be stable for 10 days without refrigeration. I have never on my hunts had any past 4-5 days (generally eat my bagel sandwiches before i get into my freeze dried meals) that I can remember, but its good for awhile.

    Navajo Nation

Posts like this are wild to me and all to common to see on RS. Why would someone apply for a tag without researching the unit/hunt or putting together a plan for that unit/hunt?
