I’d look at the outdoor vitals options for insulated jackets. They appear to be sourcing their stuff in the same factories as Kuiu. The Ventus Hoody has the same insulation as the kenai.
which version of the Helio do you have? The newest has grid fleece, the prior did not. I have both. I find them to be very similar, but I do prefer the pocket layout of the Helio for hiking. I’m a Large in the HW Hoody and a M in the Helio, both fit great. Both dry fast. It’s really a...
I’ve tried for many years to find a waterproof glove that was durable and kept dexterity. It doesn’t exist. You are better off thinking about gloves as a system and having options. Glassing mitt for when stationary, REI Gore tex over mitt for when really wet. Cheap Mechanix glove for brush...
I just scored a brand new Sitka Traverse Hoody for less than they want for this (and its warmer, most likely better-made). I’d wait until people move on from these and you can get them for a discount.
Now, the Klamath for $100 seems like the best part of then coming out with this hoody.
Seems like the story of many brands…they get their moment of popularity and realize that people will pay for the image more than the quality and they capitalize on it. I really like a few of the things I have from them, but their basic wool stuff, there’s competitors out their sourcing it local...
The nano air from patagonia is what you are describing. The Cirque Jacket from Stone Glacier is what you are describing, too (but has a lot more insulation than the kenai).
I wasn’t a fan of it. I strongly prefer the discontinued version of the Kutana Hybrid—lesser weight, better face fabric, breathes better. For non-hunting brands, I like the Arcteryx Atom LT and the Patagonia Nano Air
For Sitka—Their stratus line is the most quiet…fanatic bibs are very quiet but HOT. If you can find their 90% pant…that was a great option for most of hunting season and pretty quiet. Early season…probably the ESW line is the best
I have the thunderhead gaiters and the mountain vest. The thunderhead material is just a little more substantial than the mountain vest. Otherwise, very similar.
Hiked for two hours in the Proton FL yesterday. Had just a merino fishnet baselayer underneath. It was 30 degrees with a light wind at the start, got to about 45 degrees at the end. I had 80lbs in the pack. I never felt cold once, I did get pretty sweaty from the inclines I was hiking, when...
Update on the Mtn Ops - Pilling a lot after just a couple of washes. I’ve worn it mostly for casual use outside, around the yard. It’s very comfortable. For the price, though, very loosely knit. I wouldn’t purchase another and I think there are significantly better options out there - Sitka...
Check it out…
Just feels like a scam to me, but the pictures are real, so it has to be a real jacket.
